I agree--- UMass does not have much of a prayer. I watched both ECAC-E games yesterday and I was impressed most of all by one thing. UMass played an excellent game without any of their usual chippy style. They only drew two penalties (against their season average ofl four plus per game)....but even so.... that did them in with 2 Babson power play goals--one of which was the game winner. The Beacons played a great game--and had a great season.
As for NU/CSC....I am not sure I agree with anyone who thought Castleton played dirty. Tough? Yes! Aggressive? Absolutely! Dirty? Not from what I could see. What the Spartans did do is what ever team always tries to do,e.g. throw Cadets off their game plan. In the first two periods plus, Castleson seemed able to disrupt the Cadets timing and breaking up plays as they were developing. The game stats seem to reflect that as compared against our two earlier meetings. In our first meeting NU was able to get off 42 shots. Last night NU only took 24 shots.
What's more, I also do not see, with Steve Moffat's Plattsburgh Cardinal background, a program built on anything other than tough disciplined hockey like the teams coached by McShane and Emery. Like someone has already said, the current Spartan record reflects neither their talent or their future in the ECAC-E. Moffat's building a solid program.
Going forward Babson will surely be a challenge--and we can be sure that Jamie Murray will not allow six unanswered goals like we were able to post at our recent visit to Babson last month. And while others may not agree, I personally thought UMass looked better overall than Babson yesterday. But next week is a whole new "ball game." They will come to play.... still lots of hockey. Go Cadets.
