Norwich 14-15

Re: Norwich 14-15

Anybody out there know if UMB has any chance to get into the mix for the Frozen Four since they lost to Babson? NCAA had them ranked #4 but since #1 Trinity lost, I would assume they have a better chance at a Pool C bid than UMB. Just wondering...

UMass Boston is all but done. I think Babson gets in over them now.

Re: Norwich 14-15

Thats was my next thought, if Norwich can beat Murray, and Babson beat UMB pretty handedly today, Babson may have a good chance of getting in depending on the results of next weeks games. Who knows, it's probably way too early to even think of all the possibilities.

Re: Norwich 14-15

For the record .. no way I said that after the second period ... "Who is impersonating me on the air?"

FWIW, I never heard you say it and it would have seemed WAY out of character for you to count any chickens before they are hatched.... you have seen enough hockey to know better than to say something like that.

Puck Voice, I appologize for the impression that you said "get set for the next game vs Babson", I was refering to my previous post that said "Beat Castleton, rest up and prepare for next weekend". What you said on the air refered to Babson beating UMB and being the next team to advance to the ECAC Tourney. I knew UMB lost before the start of the Norwich game last night but didn't want to say anything to jinx the team. So, when I heard you announce it on air, I decided to post it...silly superstition and poor humor kinda of back fired. Again, appologies to all for the misconception that you were the one to say it. I watched the game last night... no one could impersonate you and do as fine of a job calling the games as you do.

No sweat 17's Fan ... I just wanted to clear it up ... Thanks for listening!

I agree--- UMass does not have much of a prayer. I watched both ECAC-E games yesterday and I was impressed most of all by one thing. UMass played an excellent game without any of their usual chippy style. They only drew two penalties (against their season average ofl four plus per game)....but even so.... that did them in with 2 Babson power play goals--one of which was the game winner. The Beacons played a great game--and had a great season.

As for NU/CSC....I am not sure I agree with anyone who thought Castleton played dirty. Tough? Yes! Aggressive? Absolutely! Dirty? Not from what I could see. What the Spartans did do is what ever team always tries to do,e.g. throw Cadets off their game plan. In the first two periods plus, Castleson seemed able to disrupt the Cadets timing and breaking up plays as they were developing. The game stats seem to reflect that as compared against our two earlier meetings. In our first meeting NU was able to get off 42 shots. Last night NU only took 24 shots.

What's more, I also do not see, with Steve Moffat's Plattsburgh Cardinal background, a program built on anything other than tough disciplined hockey like the teams coached by McShane and Emery. Like someone has already said, the current Spartan record reflects neither their talent or their future in the ECAC-E. Moffat's building a solid program.

Going forward Babson will surely be a challenge--and we can be sure that Jamie Murray will not allow six unanswered goals like we were able to post at our recent visit to Babson last month. And while others may not agree, I personally thought UMass looked better overall than Babson yesterday. But next week is a whole new "ball game." They will come to play.... still lots of hockey. Go Cadets.

Am I the only one who remembers, just a few years ago, that Castleton already has been a top 5 team? As a matter of fact, their little run of success came to an abrupt end with the 11-1 beat down at Kreitzberg in the ECAC East final.
Just had to ask...many recent posts about Castleton as an "up and comer". They're not; they're a program rebounding from a down cycle.

New leadership and new culture for the program.

See, I saw their 11-1 thumping when they were a top-5 team as a sign that perhaps they were praised a little prematurely and weren't ready to seriously compete with the perennial powers. So when I reference them as an up-and-comer, I'm not so much saying that they were never there as much as I'm saying that they never seriously belonged there but might in the future.

Re: Norwich 14-15

If the admissions office likes hockey players.

At this level that is true in any sport. I cannot believe Moffat would have given up a strong assistants job at PSU without some assurances that there was a commitment to the program. And if CSC isn't willing stand behind what ever guarantees they made to get him--then Moffat moves on to his next gig.

Its pretty much an open admissions school. They use the mirror test. Put the mirror under the nostrils - if the mirror fogs, you pass. (Actually their acceptance rate is 92% so that may be a little bit of an exaggeration, but not much of an exaggeration.

I probably laughed a little too hard at this. I was going to make a similar point, but I'm glad you got to it first in such poetic fashion.

Re: Norwich 14-15

I find it surprising Oswego only has a 48% acceptance rate, i didn't know how selective they are till now.

You both know that ncaa d3 formulas for post season are for all sports, not just hockey...so 16 teams for hockey would require an ark full of new teams playing the sport...for the formula would not be changed for hockey alone...from what I remember...if I am wrong, someone who knows better correct me, please...:D

Is this even true? I'm pretty sure d3 soccer has something like a 50 team NCAA field.

And just about every D3 school has a soccer team.

If the ratio gets to 12 teams, does the tournament set up with 4 three team regionals (Friday / Saturday)?
