Norwich 14-15

Re: Norwich 14-15

Well, today's the day. Does Norwich win big, sneak through, or get upset? They need to play three periods of hockey. It's been my observation that they have rested during the second period a lot this year, usually because they have had a scorching first period.

I've mentioned before how playing a streaking rival whom we have already beaten twice makes me nervous. On the other side of the coin, I'm more confident that they won't overlook a rival because it's always satisfying to beat Castleton.

Re: Norwich 14-15

Yes, it's now one game at a time and a hope we win the ECAC-East playoffs, as the regional rankings by the NCAA don't seem to favor Norwich. It is my understanding they are the real poll and not this or the other site's rankings. We actually went down one notch from the first poll and there is only one more published poll before the backroom elections. Correct me if I am wrong.

Re: Norwich 14-15

Prez any clue if the Castleton fans and students are going to attend the game in force. The games seemed to be a little more exciting a few years back when Castleton brought large crowds to Norwich. I not sure if Jack Healy is going to broadcast the game for Castleton but he and George are too of the best announces around D3 hockey.

Like most fans still trying to figure out the potential for Castleton this year as they have been very up and down. I guess you can chalk it up to rebuilding with a new coach. Should be a very competitive game with both teams having excellent goaltending with good SV. Very impressed that Castleton played Utica twice this year which points that they are attempting to play a stronger schedule.

As of yesterday there were still 100 seats or so left so plenty of room tonight at Kreitzberg. That doesn't include all the 800 standing room tickets and then the season ticket holders who won't show up. Should be a good crowd and I would expect Castleton might have a few more fans here than they did during the regular season. Haven't heard anything about a student bus or anything like that though.

I love college hockey, but it's so frickin goofy. There isn't another sport where a team could be #1 in the country, but potentially miss out on the playoffs due to a conference tournament loss. If Norwich is so "poor" in the NCAA rankings, how on Earth can they be #1 nationally? It's absurd.

they were 6th nationally in the NCAA rankings not #1, I'm guessing SOS had a huge part in that.

You're right. I was referencing the uscho poll which, while meaningless, isn't totally meaningless, if that makes sense. Either way, it still boggles my mind that Norwich could be in a position to miss the NCAAs. I get it, but I still think it's goofy

They'll most likely be in, it depends who loses, If Norwich, Oswego and Adrian all lose then its a good chance that Norwich could sit out. That's really the only scenario I can see. They have good win% but their SOS isn't the greatest and the committee has historically weighed SOS above all else in the criteria.

Re: Norwich 14-15

Castleton has really shown a lot of improvement over the past month. If this is an indication of where the program is heading then we have some dog fights ahead of us in the future. A growth of a competitive rivalry will be good for both programs and schools, and a competitive Castleton will only further improve the ECAC East. That's the rational argument. The emotional argument says that I love beating those green ********.

Peaks and valleys, my friend. Castleton has been "up" before, only to tumble a bit as a program. I am sure Moffat will continue their improvement though.

+1 but for such a relatively young program they have done well. I would like to see them progress to a point where they could become a permanent fourth member of the Primelink along with Norwich, Plattsburgh and Middlebury.

Re: Norwich 14-15

I was, believe me! ;) I was sweating it out though the third. Best game I have seen in awhile but I still say Castleton is dirty and was lucky the refs let them play and not call anything including the stick hit to the Norwich forward's foot on the face off in the third. Should have been an unsportsmanlike penalty.
Better be knocking on wood like a son of a gun

Re: Norwich 14-15

Anybody out there know if UMB has any chance to get into the mix for the Frozen Four since they lost to Babson? NCAA had them ranked #4 but since #1 Trinity lost, I would assume they have a better chance at a Pool C bid than UMB. Just wondering...
