Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

new year - new team?? can't wait to see what happens on friday in amherst... i'm going to assume that rawlings gets the start. umass is 3-2-1 at home. saturday features a b-ball/hockey doubleheader at matthews, with the first game at noon and the second one at 7. hockey plays low, lower, lowest, lowell - who are 0-7-2 away from home. hopefully the ice will hold up. could turn out to be a big 4-point weekend.

Good luck getting four points this weekend.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

We will wake up in sole possession of 6th place on November 1st I would have said that was not possible. 3 goals in 38 secs, I wish I could have seen it. Anybody have a video?

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

that is because seasons arent won in October. Its when the foundation is laid. Doesnt matter how you start, but how you finish. UMASS is a bad team. Blah goaltending, a few nice forwards, nothing on defense. Our goalie gave up two "goofy" ones tonight, otherwise the score might have been more in our favor. The effort is getting better, and hopefully the confidence starts to grow. Nobody on the schedule is scary in January. They need to win all they can and continue to show the same amount of improvement they have since October so once post Beanpot February comes around, they are playing the best hockey they can play.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

cautiously optimistic about the 2nd half of the season, i want to see more witt but reid is really starting to contribute and if we can get quailer and vermy firing on all cylinders, this team should be fine.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

I still think they looked sluggish out there at times tonight, but i see more disciplined skating. Vermont is going to be a tougher opponent & will be looking to turn their year around (as well).

Well, for this weekend though.. nice to see goalie rotation with Witt & Rawlings getting the 'W's. 2 wins to start the year, nice.

Home advantage.. let's get it back! :) Nice going team.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Great 4 point weekend, puts us in 6th place now and in the mix for the middle spots. Great to see our lines really melding and producing, hopefully once Vrolyk comes back he'll help give us even more strength, I'd put him on the 3rd line with McLaughlin and Reid, who have been playing great recently.

Arnie Davis, the Potato Pin man from Alfond Arena is celebrating his 90th birthday this week. I've started a birthday thread in the Cafe. Make sure to post your birthday wishes to one of the few gentlemen from Maine!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Big wknd against the Catamounts coming up (far as NU Hockey is concerned).. nice to have 2 home games back to back. Vermont is a faster team than either of the clubs we played this past wknd & record notwithstanding (i know.. how?), they're prob (in my opinion), better than the 2 we just played as well.

One gm at a time.. hopefully Rawlings gets the nod on Friday & offense can help him out. We need to win the first game with no letup. Overall we need the 4 points but something tells me Sneddon is thinking 4 points as well..

2 hustle games.. would love to get 3 pts at least. Go Huskies! :)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

I bcan believe it now.... you were righgt! This is one thing that I'm glad I was wrong about. :D
From Sebastien:

the 2nd win of this past weekend, Clay Witt would earn his first victory of the season. Brodie Reid continued right where he left off in the later parts of the season by generating offense each game. His performance would earn him the distinction of being selected the Rookie of the Week in Hockey East. Brodie now has 4 goals and 7 assists in 17 games thus far. His linemates, Mike McLaughlin and Robbie Dongara certainly deserve some accolades as well as the entire line played extremely well over the two-game series. Wade MacLeod collected 3 pts over the weekend and he remains our scoring leader with 17 points in 18 games.
These 2 wins now bring our record to 5-9-4, and5-6-3in Hockey East, good for 6th position. These two wins helped create some “space” in the standings between UMass and Lowell.
Our next challenge comes this weekend as we will face the Catamounts of the University of Vermont for a two-game contest at Matthews Arena. UVM is also behind us, so the goal is obviously to continue create more space and climb up the standings.
