Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Good tie against a formidible Maine team. We had the momentum after those 2 quick strikes in the 2nd but lost it after Fyrer helped Maine tie it up by giving them a 5 on 3 and another PP right after. On another note, can anyone explain to me why Hewkin is still playing, especially in key situations and on the PK? Sometimes he seems to be lost out there and turns the puck over half the time he handles it.

i'd rather have hewkin out there than oleksiak. he's just too tall and clumsy sometimes and gives up the puck way too much. that being said, i thought the crowd was tremendous tonight (a little dull when maine tied it up at 2) and the team fought hard to "come from behind" and steal a point back.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

I'll agree with that as well....

Yeah, I had a spit-out-my-coffee moment when I read that also.

As for this weekend, 2 really crucial games because UMass is right behind us in the standings. In fact, the in the next 4 games (vs. UMass, at UMass, vs. 'Mack, at Lowell) I would like to see the team get at least 6 out of the 8 points.

After that we have a ridiculous end the year with home and home's with UNH, BU and BC.

A side note: we always play one NESN home game a year and we seemingly always play UMass, 'Mack or Lowell. Why can't they put us on against BU or BC when we have a packed house?

I'd just like to see an away game on NESN, maybe somewhere like UVM or Maine where I can't really get there.

Missed the NU team during the Bruins intermission last night.. hopefully it was good exposure.. & i agree, would like us to have a gm (like old times - during the Fox SportsNet days :)..) when the barn was full & we were on quite a run there on FSN beating almost any/ everyone we played for quite a while.

Getting back to UMass tomorrow.. they have won 3 out of their last 4 including a 6-0 pasting of Vermont up in Burlington. Dainton is good.. Rawlings is better!
Let's go Huskies

Discipline.. 5x5.. yes we can! :)

I'm guessing the logic is that there are two things that draw an audience to a TV game:

1) A marquee name team, and
2) A competitive game.

Preferably, they'd like both, but that would mean only showing the top half of the league playing itself: UNH and Maine, BC and BU. Probably in those configurations.

Of course, the league office wants more teams to get a shot, and they try to work a deal where everyone gets what they wants. Having a marquee name play someone in the bottom half, though, might violate #2. (Nevermind that bottom half teams ARE consistently able to give the top half teams a run for their money on any given day, I'm trying to recreate the thinking of whomever it is making the NESN schedule.)

I'm guessing that by showing games like NU-UMA and MC-UVM they're killing four birds with two stones each pair; they aren't getting a marquee name, but they should get a game that's not a blowout, which will keep people watching to the end, plus they fulfill their commitment to show teams that aren't BC or BU in a game.

You know they're going to have BC-BU games on. If they go on to show BU-NU, they've crossed NU off their list for non-marquee teams, but they'd have to show more games to meet all their commitments. Show MC-UVM, NU-UMA, and UML-PC and they've crossed out teams #5-#10 with only three games, and they can spend the rest of the season in endless reconfigurations of BC, BU, UNH and UM games.

I agree with your logic on this.. redundant as the gms seem to get.

Now NU just has to blowout UMass tonight (or vice versa.. oh no!.. ).. & they'll force NESN to give 'em another shot on TV :).

Either that or not lose to Harvard in 2 Mondays from now (on TV), & you'll get plenty of NU on TV.. (my sig has stayed put for a while now) :)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

could someone please tell the NCAA what conference our hockey teams are in..[/URL]

.. may not be such a bad idea.. :) (okay nevermind).

On to the gm tonight, nice to get the 'W'. Nice to get the 'W' + shutout on TV.

Lots of blown chances by both teams on offense.. pretty sloppy play for quite a while. McNeely had tons of time on his breakaway but he just didn't know that then.. :) Our 'D' looked good, but Rawlings was the best Husky on the ice tonight.

UMass had plenty of chances to get on the board, just sloppy passing.. our gain. Did Dongara's goal hit someone's stick (shaft) before going in? Dainton was way out of position & usually he's pretty good with those. Nevertheless, total hustle goal.. he (Rob) deserved it. Where was Ferreiro tonight?

5-1-1 in 2011.. let's keep marching. A 'W' tomorrow (hopefully) & let's get on the good side of the equation in HE. Go NU

..did want to add, great to see a strong DogHouse showing (back again), at Matthews last night! Where were you guys..? You make a huge difference in atmosphere & i'm sure the players enjoy it. Well done :).

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Nice to get a point on the road.. missed the gm, would love to hear from anyone who did attend.

Rawlings playing with poise, he'll need that against our nxt opponent who is lighting up Vermont right now by 7 goals.. (i know, UMass got 6 against UVM so it seems everyone is lighting them up lately). They might be a different team come playoff time but that's their story.

Anyhow, the 'Mack is lethal on the powerplay so we will need to stay disciplined at home & we might have a chance.

As for this weekend, nice to get 3 out of 4 Hockey East pts.. well done team! :)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

I didn't go to Amherst but I watched the game online. The camera work and production value was pretty bad but it seemed that our first line was fantastic and for the most part, the rest of the forwards did not play very well. No Ferriero again and McLaughlin missed this one too. Hoeffler "played"...I didn't see him much after he was on the ice for the first UMA goal.

After a bad start, Rawlings played very well again. His lateral movement has improved significantly since last season. All in all, a solid three point weekend.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Watched game on TV last night and I must say last night’s key players were new bee’s Pimm, Dongara and Reid who are all playing very well. Tonight, I went out to hostile Amherst, where it’s never easy to win or get a point, to watch the game and would say that we could have and should have had a 4 point weekend.

We had a poor defensive 1st period in which we had far too many penalties. I think Rawlings had like 40 saves, so he is my player of the game. All and all, I am happy with the 3 pts and the best January finish I can remember in 27 seasons following the team. I think they are playing well defensively and will be stingy, giving up goals going forward. The lower lines are still subject to over skating on the offensive side, getting too deep without proper puck control and thus giving up the occasional odd mad rush the other way and this needs to get fixed.

However, look at the schedule after the Lowell game they will be facing the metal of the league and will need to be better offensively if they are to continue to get points down the stretch. All and all I think we can salvage a season. Not sure they are an NCAA caliber team, and with the 2 best scoring seniors ready for graduation, I have my concerns for goal production next year.

Although let's face it, after the slow start, we are seeing a team that with at times 8 suited freshman is competing fairly well. I thing Greg, Sebastian and Albie have really done pretty well all things considered. They are battling and playing good, generally smart and competent hockey.

However, they will need better recruits if they are to dethrone the traditional Hockey East powers any time in our lifetime.

Went, we scored 30 sec in which shut everyone up in mullins for about two seconds then they scored twice on odd man rushes, we just didn't cover well with the big ice sheet, our defensemen had poor games, bitetto looked bad as did eibler, bad positioning and just general poor play. all of the goals happened at the opposite end of the arena, so cant really say how any of them happened. 3rd period we came out flat and stayed flat until about 2 minutes to go where we had 3-4 chances to burry one and we either just missed the net or were inches away from a connecting pass that would have burried one. OT we came out FLAT and looked completely gassed, zero energy, umass had a lot of chances, after that **** poor showing in the extra frame those in attendance were happy to get a point.

im going to miss wade macleod, a lot.

ill take 3 points, big game with the mack on friday. almost more excited for that one than the one on monday, we play them well as they are a good matchup for us, hopefully our freshman defensemen show up because last night they showed their inexperience.
