Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Merrimack really got going after they scored thier first goal. Oleksiak should have stepped up and poked that puck up ice, instead, he falls back, and Merrimack scores a too easy goal to get them going.

You're not even going to mention Hewkin on that play? He got beat like he stole something. Again. I'm so sick of 28 getting caught up ice repeatedly. It'd be one thing if he was good offensively, but he has like 15 points in 4 years. Yes, Oleksiak should have poked the puck but the majority of the blame on that goal goes to Hewkin.

From the USHR:
"5’10”, 160 lb. Buffalo Regals U-16 forward Dylan McLaughlin has committed to Northeastern for the fall of ’13 or ’14.

A left-shot center, McLaughlin, a sophomore in high school, is a 6/5/95 birthdate from Lancaster, NY, a bit west of Buffalo.

More a playmaker than scorer, McLaughlin is a good skater who plays well in all three zones. Like Baiocco, McLaughlin has yet to physically mature.

McLaughlin, who played at last summer’s Select 15 Festival, also made a visit to Yale, and is a possibility for the NTDP."

Also found it funny the MC players grabbing their jerseys and gesturing to the NU fan section...look we know you haven't even made an NCAA Tournament since 1988 but please, learn to handle success.

hmmmmm, interesting

..you mean, act like they've been there.. oh wait .. :)

would be sort of like us winning the 'Pot this yr.. our players had better grab that jersey & wave to everyone within 500 miles.. :)

far as last night... that was Cucci rubbing it in (he has memories i am sure, of when he was a Husky) & as i mentioned.. i am sure he thought last night was fitting payback. How could it not be.

Well, the good thing is, we weren't going to get home ice anyway and this will **** them off in time for their Beanpot games. If we can do what we haven't done also since '88, could really propel us for the last 6 games of the season which are brutal.

I pray to God we get BU or Merrimack for round of the playoffs. I would love to travel to BU or Lawler. Maine, UNH, BC...no thanks.

Also, my friend who works as a camera guy at Matthews overheard two refs who weren't officiating that night say that was the worst officiated game they'd seen in a while.

With 40 seconds left in OT how is that honestly not a check from behind?

Terrible officiating, that being said it was one of the more entertaining games, the crowd went nuts for the mini-fight there, wouldn't be surprised if that actually wins some fans back to the remaining games. I also hope we play either BU or Merrimack (preferably Merrimack). Some good games played with those two played so far.

I've been saying this all year. Not surprisingly, "P"ewkin was out there for three of Merrimack's four goals and he was teamed up with Ellement for that one in OT. If thats not a recipe for disaster, I don't know what is.

I'm just glad we played it close & had our chances..

'Mack put up 11 goals against UMass tonight..

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

A tough loss to take. We had so many opportunities in the 1st period to put this one out of reach, with 5 penalties taken by the Warriors, and even 1:57 of 5-on-3, but we could only cash in for 1. That ultimately did us in down the stretch. That being said, the officiating was very questionable and they definitely let the game get out of hand.

McNeely showed why he's the captain of this team. He got wrecked trying to crash the net on that shorthanded rush, and was in obvious pain. I think he only missed one shift, then returned to the ice just in time to have Merrimack taking shots at Silva while he was down. McNeely then handily took care of his adversary (who initiated the scrum between them by tackling him). He sent a message to the rest of the team and got the crowd pumped. That might have been the loudest Matthews has been this season; it was definitely the angriest.

It was frustrating to have the game come down to a non-call at the end, as a Merrimack player practically dragged JDaniels down from behind as he was trying to receive a centering pass and then went on to score on the ensuing play.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

it took a few pitchers of beer, but i eventually got over the loss. it's time to stop complaining and move on to the next game. i hope the team comes out angry and wanting to win. i think that was their biggest problem; they didn't play with any urgency against 'mack. i want to see a pounding of harvard tomorrow.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

In case you didn't see it, don't let the score deceive you. It simply was not that close. Huskies out shot in the game perhaps 2 to 1 and out hustled in the loss, just my opinion. However, they had leads and then kept it close, but in the OT they just plain Sucked! And you have to keep asking yourself is this a program that can only reach the, Oh so fing important top 16 but once a decade. Merrimack is a good team but let’s face it they are not going to win a national championship hell this is their best year since they entered DIV 1, but they are not a top 10 team and thus I guess it is what it is. I could do into depth analysis on the mistakes but why bother. You have to ask yourself, is the issue, the basic talent.
I'm not sure which game you were at Friday night. The Huskies got badly outshot, yes, but that is often a virtually meaningless number. I thought they played a hell of a game, had plenty of urgency and good speed. Yes, they had a couple of lapses (those back-door plays that 'mack had for goals), but overall I though the Huskies played well. They deserved at least a point out of it against a strong Merrimack team.

Not sure if anyone else noticed - but I'd say about 10 of 'mack's shots were dump ins from the blue line... unscreened and right at Rawlings...

Departing now for TD. Let's end the drought this year ****it!

Why did you only leave at 415? When I was a student, I was at the garden by 415 and since I have graduated, I would be at sullivan's tap or the greatest bar by the latest 2. I'm ashamed of you.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Great to see Vrolyk back out there tonight--I thought we were going to end up red shirting him this year. That can be a very dangerous line, Vrolyk, Dongara, and McLaughlin are all speedy.

Rawlings played fantastically. Harvard had several really good chances, but he was up to the test tonight. He's only one shutout behind Thiessen for a tie for the most in program history.

If we are going to have a chance next week, we have to take less penalties and we're going to need Rawlings to continue the fantastic play.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Far as our game tonight..

Nice win by NU!

That was a heck of a game (i am referring to the 2nd gm).. that determined the other Beanpot finalist.

Northeastern cannot play like they did in the 3rd against Harvard. We let them have too many looks & point blank opportunities on Rawlings. BC will not miss those chances.

Also, when we are up 4-0.. why are we talking multiple penalties? That's 2 gms in a row now. We were up 2-0 against Merrimack & similar behavior.

Coach Cronin had better stress discipline as BC is lethal on the powerplay.

I will say this again.. 5x5 we can skate with any team. We have a solid 'tender & good defense. Skate with purpose and discipline Huskies & anything can happen in the final.

Nice job by McLaughlin. MacLeod was good.. if he would have passed a couple times, he would have been great :). Same for Daniels.

Dongara continues to impress with hustle. Vrolyk looked good. McNeely & Silva had a good game. Overall a strong performance by Rawlings. 'D' was good.. they'll need to be great (Oleksiak, you have it in you) :). Ferriero is improving each game.

Congrats on the win tonight.. nice showing by the NU contingent.
Lowell next. We'll worry about BC after.

Go Huskies!
:)
