Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Rawlings played fantastically. Harvard had several really good chances, but he was up to the test tonight. He's only one shutout behind Thiessen for a tie for the most in program history.

Not really, I can't remember a single time when Harvard actually threatened to score, or were able to get their stick cleanly on a puck for a good scoring chance. I have no idea how they piled up 40+ shots, they played terribly all night long. To call that beating the JV team would be an insult to JV teams everywhere.

Why did you only leave at 415? When I was a student, I was at the garden by 415 and since I have graduated, I would be at sullivan's tap or the greatest bar by the latest 2. I'm ashamed of you.

I had class and left asap.

The NU section next week is going to be absurd. This week was held down because of classes/co-ops and the 5 P.M. start. Next week, it will be be ridiculous. Can't wait to at the very least, own the Super Fanboy section.

Wow, you really are new to this aren't you? My friend walked up to the box office before the game and bought a ticket in 311, the section directly to the right of the two you had mostly full. This means NU returned a bunch of tickets they didn't sell to students. Of course you'll have more next week, BC is a far bigger matchup than Harvard.

BC seemingly bought a bunch of student tickets from Northeastern too. We had a small section of students in 313, right next to where they put our band and right next to the NU student section.
And also, I thought NU was supposed to have the best fans? BC brought more fans to the 5 PM Harvard game last year. I understand we are typically higher ranked, but NU always brings a crapload of fans despite never really being that good, and NU does have a lot shorter ride on the T...

a) I'm fully aware that we didn't sell out. In fact, we had a long discussion about it on the way to TD Garden. Can't expect a 5 P.M. game against Harvard to = an 8 P.M. game vs. BU

b) I'm fully aware that playing a weak Harvard tean = less attendance.

c) I know who are rivals are.

And for the record, I know a lot of people who specifically didn't go because of co-op and classes who would have attended.

I know that it's nothing's guaranteed, but you'd think that people would consider the reasonably good possibility that NU would be playing in the final given that we had Harvard in the opener this year. We're what, five for six against them in the semis since the mid-'90's?

Regarding NU having "the best" fans, it's always been about quality rather than quantity, and judging by what I could hear on the TV broadcast, that hasn't changed yet.

You ever been to Agannis? Place is so weak compared to Matthews. Even sold out, a BU vs. BC game at Agannis is nothing compared to NU vs. BU at Matthews in terms of student sections. Wonder how it was at Walter Brown Arena?

It's cause the environment is so different.

You can bring a bomb into Matthews and no one would know/care. Hell it was only a couple of years ago they moved from ripping tickets to actually scanning them.

At BU you have a state of the art arena where you pay $100 for a family of 4 just to get into the game.

But I agree the students at NU are much worse. The worst part about a game at Agganis is the prepubescent shrills whenever BU crossed the red line 1 on 4.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Oh it's nice as hell. When I went for the first time last year I was like wow, this is gorgeous. Complete opposite from the historic barn at NU. It's too bad we can't field a consistent near-elite team because Matthews has wasted potential. Last year vs. BU when Rawlings pitched his 43 save virtuoso performance, man, it was incredible. We lost all fan momentum this year after the three straight losses to Atlantic Hockey teams. A Beanpot would get the place rockin' again.

I've seen BC play at Agganis 3 times (went to the early December games each of the past 2 years and went to one way back in '06 when I was still in high school) and in BU's defense, they haven't had much to cheer about in any of those games... :-P
I've been to every HE rink except UNH and UVM, and I would have to probably say NU has the best student section but Maine is a close 2nd. Maine by far has the best overall fans (NU's students are their only fans) and game atmosphere of the rinks I've been to (and probably the best pep band too). I really enjoyed my visit to Alfond, despite BC getting trounced 4-1 just shortly after I learned the Patriots lost to the Jets. I think that says a lot about it.

'Twas ever thus. I still remember the Surge! game fondly. That, and the win over BU in the fall of '93.

Walter Brown was quite an experience, but I think the BU fanbase has gone downhill a bit since then.

WBA is the polar opposite of Agganis. You can put a boombox in that place and it'd sound like a full orchestra with that low tin roof. Agganis is a great facility and has helped the program immensely, but there are times I sorely miss that place.
