Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

I am pretty excited becasue I think they have ended BU's season and NCAA bid hopes by loosening 3 of 5 to an unranked opponent down the stretch, so our Huskies should have some degree of season validation and will be a difficult foe for BC on neutral ice.

And when's the last time we could say that our season lasted longer than BU's? Not since 1988, I don't think... I'd still like to finish ahead of them in the regular season standings, too, but ending their season is just as good.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Taking 3 out of 4 against same opponent last 4 gms ..
way-to-go-team!

..sure hope this series (somehow), is a positive impetus in our upcoming match up against a very good club.

Way to go fans!
..all for now
:)

..but ending their season is just as good.
.. reminds me of a certain Mastercard commercial :)

GO NU

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

HUGE win! but I'm not satisfied yet. On to the Garden, bring on the Eagles. GO HUSKIES!!!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

I wrote this in the game blog, but figured I'd reiterate it here.

Sincere congrats to NU and their fans. I've always admired how devoted your fans are and how gritty your team plays. Really hope you can make some noise beyond tonight...I'll certainly be rooting for you.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Thanks.. its David v/s Goliath nxt.. that's for sure.

Might be it for us.. might not.. who knows? That's why they play the game..
Night all

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

In case any of you guys were wondering, NU is .0006 points away from being a TUC with an RPI of .4994. I know you guys will likely have to win the entire Hockey East tourney to make the NCAA tournament anyway, but just throwing that out there. If you could've won those three AHA games, who knows where you guys would be in terms of landing an at large spot...

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Best moment in my 5 years at NU- let's keep it going against BC!

BTW, Brodie Reid should be the HE ROTY

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Congrats on the win... great showing from the fans all three nights. Best of luck moving on!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

I loved when your fans threw the Five Year chant right back at BU.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Congrats to the Huskies! I had a good feeling that they would beat BU, and I'm happy to see them get to the Garden for the 2nd time in 3 years. This team has had a lot to battle through this year, but has done a great job of playing through the adversity.

What a great night of hockey for me. I was at CC vs. Wisconsin Game 3 and of course following the NU/BU game on my phone. Both teams are playing next weekend, so I'm happy. :)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

I have been critical at time on this forum at times, but I have to say NU played with guts and desire down the stretch since the Beanpot and could likly play with any team in the nation right now and if not for the slow start we would likely be on the bubble for an NCAA spot, amidst all the early injuries, up and down goal tending they really are very fun to watch and seem to have played fairly well since Thanksgiving. Nice Job Huskies.

Also, I really don't care about shaking hands or what anyone is saying. I bet the refs kind initiated to send the players off the ice without shaking hands; it was not a coaches or players decision. Hat's off to Northeastern who generally played better hockey and took 3 of 5 games from BU in the last week all the wins on BU home ice. Clearly, BU is not an NCAA caliber team this season, because if they are, NU is too, we had better goalie over 9 periods and I think that was the difference. I am pretty excited becasue I think they have ended BU's season and NCAA bid hopes by loosening 3 of 5 to an unranked opponent down the stretch, so our Huskies should have some degree of season validation and will be a difficult foe for BC on neutral ice.

I was correct...per game recap see below.

"Some minor controversy ensued after the final buzzer, mainly due to an odd decision by the officials as well as some miscommunication. With some relatively minor tussling going on, the referees ordered Northeastern to leave the ice without shaking hands. This led BU to assume that it was Cronin’s decision, and BU players started jawing about it being a classless move.

Cronin said he completely understood why the Terrier players felt that way. Parker visited the Northeastern locker room afterward to congratulate them, and all was well. Much ado about little."

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Well.. a good 'Welcome Back' for Coach Cronin.

I think him, LaPlante & rest of the coaching staff have to stress 'discipline' to the team.. again.. in this short wk of rest for NU.

The BC powerplay (unlike BU) is lethal. If we end up taking 8, 9, 10 penalties in the gm.. don't care how well the guys on the ice, goalie play.. that'll be the long & short of it.

Sound like a broken record but 5x5... this team can skate with anybody. Wish there was a way the coaches can show them how many gms they either lost or tied in the final mins..due being a man down this season.

Then you have officiating at the Garden.. just does not get easy. We can solve this with disciplined skating. Our last series should be a wake-up call.

I think we're all thrilled we don't have to deal with BU officiating & reviews at the Garden, it's like everyone starts the game down 1-0

Reid could get HE Rookie of the Year. He leads all freshman with 28 points and is second with 11 goals.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Next to the 1980 beanpot, this is probably the biggest win in school history. Huge win for the program, and is there anything better than sending BU home!

I believe that award is based on HE regular season games. If that's the case, Reid is 6th in freshman scoring. Regardless, he's had a nice freshman year and he should only get better.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Anyone else surprised by Hewkin's performance lately? Where'd he come from all of a sudden?
