Northeastern 2024-25: Last Days (Maybe) for the Old Barn

Now Ws in five of the last seven. So, maybe. UVM usually gives NU fits.

And suddenly up to 18 in the PWR. Order your NCAA regional tickets now!

I love your optimism but UVM isn't really the best barometer or litmus test. We will see. More to follow. I'm happy my under 10 win season will likely not come to fruition.

By my count we are only at a 7 in regulation. I don’t count the OTs and shootouts. In terms of wins in regulation you could still be right.

Tough schedule remaining. 5 or 6 out of 11 games against to 10 teams, only 2 games (Merrimack) against teams out of top 15.

The good news is at #18 we are somehow approaching the pairwise bubble, and a hot streak here could see us with an at large bid. I didn’t think it would be, but success is still in reach this season

I don't know about you, but I am hoping for a home regional in the NIT Tournament. What a way to close Matthews by hosting Arizona State or Augustana :D

Anyway, does anyone know if the Beanpot is going to be streaming on ESPN+ for those that live outside of New England?

...all I can say is that NU must be the Jekyll/Hyde of college hockey.

And now, the J/H syndrome goes period-to-period, not just game-to-game. How a team can dominate in one period and look like beer leaguers in the next is beyond me.

Easily. Chugg a ton of beer in between periods.

When NU comes to Maine on Friday we will even provide a cooler full in your locker room and stock as needed throughout the game. A token of our appreciation, no need to thank us!

Whitehead might have some liability on one goal but when the apparent game plan is for your goalie to pitch a shutout and somehow score at least one goal, it's probably not going to be a good night. Especially when you go 0-5 on the PP and can't convert on a 2-on-0 breakaway.

Hoping for a Monday Miracle.

Both goals Whitehead gave up were tipped in front. The Makar goal he gave up was where he was screened heavily and couldn’t see past Makar and Makar tipped it. So I don’t think Whitehead can be faulted for either goal he gave up. You would put that on the defensemen not boxing out the players in front of Whitehead. He is a bright spot on NU. I think there is a lack of work ethic and getting to the dirty areas for NU. They appear to be soft and lacking effort, not great qualities for a team.

No posts on the Beanpot thread since Jan. 10. Can't remember so little interest at this point. Very little hype from the BP schools as well.

Agreed because they have only two chances, slim and none. Likely the he worst team in nearly two decades

Despite the low interest on the board, tickets to the event were snapped up. I'm unable to attend week one and have been tracking seats for week two. Ticketmaster has only resale seats at very high prices right now.

Split-N are you the one that posts that funny Beanpot story - the guy’s wife died, he’s at the game, all his friends are at the wake etc etc etc. ? I love that and was hoping to share it. If it’s not you do you recall who posts that?

Here ya go:

An elderly alumnus from a Beanpot school is settling into his seat—one of the best in the TD Garden--for the championship game of the Beanpot College Hockey Tournament. The seat next to him is empty. As he sits down, a young lady--a stranger--comes by and asks if the empty seat is taken. "No," he says, "the seat will be empty tonight." "This is incredible," replied the young lady. "Who in their right mind would buy a super-expensive seat like this for the Beanpot and not use it?"

The old alum says, "Well actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away. This is the first Beanpot we haven't been to together since we met as students back in the day."

"Oh, that’s so sad" says the young lady, obviously moved, “especially since it’s almost Valentine’s Day. But couldn't you find someone else--a relative or friend, or even a neighbor--to come here with you tonight?”

The old alum shakes his head and replies, "Nope, they're all at the wake."

And that, boys and girls, is why the Beanpot is special.
