Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

Glad you think how a team is playing currently has no relevance on this game lol...please keep thinking that and see how far it gets you on saturday. How a team is playing right now has the most relevance of anything. Also being ranked outside of the top 10 does not get your considered "one of the best teams in the country".

WIth that said, do I think UNH is good? Yes. But these are two vastly different teams than when they played in October, and UNH struggled at times in that series. Knapp played a very poor game in game two. One thing I can say though is Miami is playing far better at this point than they did in October and I am not sure UNH is playing better and that is a huge difference. I will take this Miami team and the way they are rolling over anyone in the country right now. History aside because that is just history not the present which is all I care about. UND and BC are playing well also but I just love how well this team is playing on both ends of the ice. Therefore UNH's task has gotten tougher based on how well they are playing. I look forward to a nerve wracking entertaining game, but will give our boys the edge.

I never said UNH WILL win. I said if they do, its not an upset. That is all. Enjoy the game.

Re: Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

Hey MCHOCKEY.. don't talk to me about getting my panties a bunch. calm down. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and it seemed like ND was getting over looked, oh btw i'm not an irish fan either. Also, I may be a ''newbie''(whatever that means) but don't act like your some expert on the threads..this is probably your first time on a playoff thread because your a mack fan.

HAHAHAHA :) You are funny TopShelf...okay...let's start here...Newbie = new guy on the block who seems to think they know everything...Being a 'Mack fan for as long as I have been, trust me, I don't overlook anybody...as for the first time in a playoff thread, nope, that would have been the year I graduated (1998) after they upset BU (by the way, GoUNH...you can call that one an upset LOL)...as for being an expert on these threads, a lot of people can attest to my knowledge of the sport, especially when it comes to MC hockey...you can have your opinion, but trust me, after suffering as an MC fan for as long as I have, there is NO WAY IN HELL, I'm overlooking ND. So, now, let's move on...should be a great game (or 2 if they can get by ND) and a phenomenal time...my dad took me to the see MC play quite a bit the year they were last in the NCAA's...I was only 13...I remember it, but this year will be one I won't soon forget...what a ride...let's hope we can ride this all the way to St. Paul...of course not overlooking anybody along the way ;) See you all this weekend.

You can tell we're getting close to game time....things are getting a little chippy!!!! I love it!!!

I'm sitting here watching two GREAT games between SDSU/UConn and BYU/Florida and I can't wait for 3:00pmET tomorrow! In the inimitable words of one Marvin Gaye...."Let's get it on!" [hockey-wise....I generally require drinks first in other situations]

Re: Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

UNH plays an uptempo, transition style much like BC and allowed about 3 or 4 more shots on goal per game on average. And that qualifies UNH's defense as one that "sucks"? OK...
BTW, the University of Maine allowed an average of 25.2 shots on goal so their defense was much better than BC's? It seems pretty clear that shots on goal allowed by a team reflects their style of play as much as anything else.

Try looking at that post again. Taking off the blue and white glasses and just look at the data for what it is. Think about the really good UNH teams of 10 - 12 years agao and how fantastic the D on some of those teams was (really limiting shots) and that was and up tempo style. If you are going to look at team D excluding the goalie how else to suggest it be done?

Limiting shots limits the work the goal needs to do, it is why coaches preach limiting shots. Is it always true, no, but in general more shots translates to more scoring oportunities. Some cases a team booms away from outside and the pressure is lower.

:)Looks like GoUNH and Redhawkman10 are going to start the game in the penalty box. 2 minutes each for unsportsmanlike conduct. And while we're at it I give 2 minutes to Jon for interference.:) Come to think of it give me a double minor for interference.:o

I think a Michael Buffer quote would be more apropos.

From "Urban Dictionary", newbie - A person that is new to a game or forum. Not to be confused with n00b, a derogatory term to define either a new user to a game/forum or someone who acts stupidly regardless of account age or time played. Usage as follows:
"I just joined USCHO and I don't know what I am doing yet! I hate being a newbie."

Other than that, I think your (sic) doing okay.;)

Re: Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

Not nearly as funny...."Let's get ready to rumble!"???? we can do better than that.

Woops, sorry, I meant Bruce. Stupid look alike brothers. "Its Time".

It's also time for Miami to break out the...

Couldn't be more proud of those glasses - but I wasn't wearing them. Just trying to provide some context to the shots on goal statistics. If, as you say, the UNH teams from 1998-2003 allowed substantially fewer SOG's than the other teams in the NCAA Tournament, that would be very impressive. It's generally acknowledged that the college game was more offensively-oriented back then.

I don't know, MC beat BU, so obviously, they could beat BU (i.e. heading into the game, the statement "BU is good, but I think MC can beat them" would have been accurate), therefore not an upset.

Re: Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

I was told that earlier this week the student tickets were gone so maybe that's why they aren't advertising them.

This would be just awesome; I give credit to the small group of student fans, sitting with the band, at the Garden. Would be nice if UNH fans could make more noise.

About the fan bus... I know UNH has done this in the past and people didn't use them. Maybe that's why they don't do it anymore.

I think I have said this before; 5 years ago, UNH had their own charter buses. A day trip to Manchester / Boston cost around $300. Athletics could afford to pay for the whole thing for students, and adults were only charged $5 or $10. When UNH forced the closure of the UTS Charter Department, prices tripled overnight, and athletics couldn't handle the cost. Students had to pay $5 - $10, and adults were up to $20. Back when gas was more reasonably priced, it made it less attractive to take the bus, when you could drive for less money. We went from sending 7 fan buses to the Garden in 2002 to sending just one, and then none. As the price of the bus went up, the demand went down. Athletics was covering half the cost of the bus, and still couldn't make it worth it.

What Rob M said is correct. NCAA regulations state that the band is allowed to bring 25 players, plus the director. That leaves 30 open seats on the bus, that athletics is already paying for. Why not sell those seats for $5, or $10, and fill the bus? It may regenerate interest. The only problem with this is that the band only goes to the UNH game, and I know most people want to stay for both. I know Mrs Goodwin reads the boards on occasion, perhaps she can chime in on this.

But, what somebody else said about interest going down is absolutely correct. Look at the football game at Gilette Stadium; I led a 7 bus convoy there, and there were at least 6 other buses there, from UNH but not through UNH.

I just hope UNH plays well, and the fans make lots of noise.

I dont mean to change the subject but I couldnt find the information anywhere. I know last year at the DCU Center in Worcester, they held open practices for the public. Are they doing the same thing this year? Just curious, I have nothing else to do today :)

Hope you don't have too much of a hangover this morning! Looks like you were drinking the moonshine pretty good last night.

Good question. There wasn't anything listed on the information page on unhwildcats.com.... If you're already in Manch, might not be a bad idea to swing by (I think UNH practices at 11:30, the first of the four practices)
