Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

Re: Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

Are mack fans assuming their just going to skate by ND? Give me a break I know you guys are finally winning and have finally made it to the NCAA's but you should be concerned about getting by ND before looking ahead to see who your going to face.

Hey Topshelf...why don't you read the whole thing before you go jumping to conclusions...Sean asked who we'd be rooting for in the 1st game...and he asked it based on who we'd rather face if we survived ND...don't go getting your panties in a bunch...nobody is looking over your beloved Fighting Irish...they did something to get where they are, and therefore, from this point on, nobody gets overlooked. IT was simply an answer to a "what if' question. Now, back to our regularly scheduled program. Sheeesh. Can always tell the Newbies...getting their panties in a bunch w/o reading the whole f!ng thread!!

Even if Merrimack fans were dumb enough to overlook ND, who cares? They aren't the hockey team. Fans will be fans.

It's not like we're discussing the Golden Gophers and their proud tradition of arrogance. They don't even debate it - they proudly flaunt their arrogance and celebrate it with aplomb.

That's why they're a 1 seed again. ;)

Re: Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

Of course not. It's walking distance.
Someone should tell Barry Melrose that the Volpe is actually closer to the Verizon (35.6 miles) than the Whittemore Center (37.1 miles) (though the estimated travel time by car is 56 minutes from Lawler and 50 from the Whitt). [source: GoogleMaps]

You have to ask? :p
It was somewhat rhetorical knowing that Athletics reads the boards. UNH, as host, presumably has added incentive to get asses in the seats, yet the school of 2,000 seems to be doing a better job of it (fan bus, etc.).

Of course they are. This is a new and extremely exciting. Remember the first time UNH hosted a regional? Seats were sold out in November. As the years go on fans get used to hosting and being there it seems.

Yet it has felt like they've done practically nothing, just like nothing was done to get people to the Garden.

It probably feels that way, because it is that way. The school wants students to go to the games, but doesn't seem to want to actually do anything to help.

I think Miami is a very good team. And I think UNH can beat them. The players do not use recent trends in performance and overall stats during the game. They go out and play.
But the recent trends and overall stats paint a picture of how well or how poorly the two teams are currently playing. Miami is a very good team, and UNH can beat them, but given all of the actual information (not relying on hopes or hunches), Miami is the favorite. Therefore, UNH winning would be an upset. That doesn't mean that UNH is some terrible team that shouldn't even be here, and any sort of victory would be shocking, just that they're not the favorites. They weren't when they played Cornell last year, and they certainly weren't when they played NoDak two years ago. Both of those games were upsets, and UNH's victory on Saturday will be, as well. The relative "size" of the upset is debatable.

Jesus reading that made my eyes glaze over. Its 2 of the best teams in the country going at it. We're not talking Patriots Rams Superbowl here. UNH beating BC in the title game would be an upset. UNH beating Miami at the Regionals would be just that. At this point I'm not even sure how I got sucked into this. Frankly I couldn't care less.

Hey MCHOCKEY.. don't talk to me about getting my panties a bunch. calm down. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and it seemed like ND was getting over looked, oh btw i'm not an irish fan either. Also, I may be a ''newbie''(whatever that means) but don't act like your some expert on the threads..this is probably your first time on a playoff thread because your a mack fan.

Re: Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

Miami 22.9
UND 23.8
Union 24.9
Notre Dame 26.0
Western 26.6
Yale 26.7
Duluth 27.3
UNO 27.8
MC 28.1
BC 28.4
CC 29.1
RPI 29.2
Denver 29.4
Air Force 30.3
UNH 31.9
Michigan 33.5

Shot allowed per game.

With Miami it isn't just that their goalies are good but you just don't get shots.

Also I found it interesting that each of the top 4 is separated by about 1 shot per game from the one above, the bottom 2 are 1.6. Basically UNH's and Michigan's goalies are the hardest working pair coming into the tournament (the D in front of them sucks the most).
UNH plays an uptempo, transition style much like BC and allowed about 3 or 4 more shots on goal per game on average. And that qualifies UNH's defense as one that "sucks"? OK...
BTW, the University of Maine allowed an average of 25.2 shots on goal so their defense was much better than BC's? It seems pretty clear that shots on goal allowed by a team reflects their style of play as much as anything else.

Gee, you getting sucked into a pointless argument? Who'd have thunk it?

I'll put it simply: On paper, would you say Miami is the better team?

Re: Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

None of the postings that I could find on UNHWildcats.com or linked through UNH Athletics' facebook account mention that there is a two game package available to UNH students w/ a valid ID for $32, whenever tickets are mentioned (including on the "2011 NCAA® Division I Men's Ice Hockey Northeast Regional Central" page linked to from the splash page) it is only the standard "Package prices are $77 for adults and $57 for youth ages 2-12 and senior citizens 65-plus." They could be promoting it through the Wild E. Cat and Gnarlz Facebook accounts, I can't say.

I don't dispute the "new and exciting" angle, what is frustrating is that Merrimack is putting forth additional effort to get people there (buses for both the Garden & the Verizon) while we aren't - we likely wouldn't fill 5 buses, but even 2 buses would get fans (especially students) from campus to the Verizon that might other wise not go. Put a student ticket + bus package together and promote the hell of it on campus, UNHWildcats.com, and social media. From what Keith has said in the past, we have a bus with just the band going to Manchester, the rest of the seats they don't use are literally empty - make the extras available to students, heck, you could even charge them something reasonable and make back some of the cost, even if you don't charge them you've still lost nothing as you were sending the bus anyways.

Has anyone heard if they are going to put single day tickets on sale?
At this time, the NCAA Northeast Regional at the Verizon Wireless Arena is expected to sell out. Therefore, the packages are not expected to be broken up into individual game tickets. For the most up to date information on ticket packages, please visit www.unhwildcats.com.

I was told that earlier this week the student tickets were gone so maybe that's why they aren't advertising them.

About the fan bus... I know UNH has done this in the past and people didn't use them. Maybe that's why they don't do it anymore.

Re: Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

Couple of years ago, they actually played the overtime of a regular season(i think) lacrosse game over the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament Hockey game. Seriously!?!?! I could not believe that crap!

On one hand, regular season game of sport that literally no one watches....
On the other hand, a tournament game leading to a national title.

ESPN's logic (or lack thereof) continues to astound.

Getting way off topic but I have to think that NCAA lacrosse is at least as popular in Long Island/Mid Atlantic/Carolinas as NCAA Hockey is in New England and the midwest. I won't **** in their cheerios, as long as we get our games starting on time :)

Glad you think how a team is playing currently has no relevance on this game lol...please keep thinking that and see how far it gets you on saturday. How a team is playing right now has the most relevance of anything. Also being ranked outside of the top 10 does not get your considered "one of the best teams in the country".

WIth that said, do I think UNH is good? Yes. But these are two vastly different teams than when they played in October, and UNH struggled at times in that series. Knapp played a very poor game in game two. One thing I can say though is Miami is playing far better at this point than they did in October and I am not sure UNH is playing better and that is a huge difference. I will take this Miami team and the way they are rolling over anyone in the country right now. History aside because that is just history not the present which is all I care about. UND and BC are playing well also but I just love how well this team is playing on both ends of the ice. Therefore UNH's task has gotten tougher based on how well they are playing. I look forward to a nerve wracking entertaining game, but will give our boys the edge.
