NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

Also of note, this team is .650 at home and only .375 on the road.

Home Saturday games are the best to this team: A whopping .875 win percentage at home. (Neutral site games played on Wednesdays are actually the best, with the 'Cats going a perfect 1.000 for those games. But the data sample for those games is very small. ;))

Saturday road games seem to be the equivalent to MLB "getaway" games: the 'Cats are a lowly .286 in games where they leave town that night.

Does Davyd83 have any update on injured NMU Junior Forward Sami Salminen (6'4" 225lbs) who has been out since the MTU series back in late October????

Out of 60 Division 1 schools, that's about right for a .500 team. As you pointed out, 9-9-6, almost dead middle of the PWR, and a goals for of 58 and a goals against of 57. The team isn't terrible, but they need to make hay with the very light travel schedule to end this season. An appearance in St. Paul isn't out of this team's realm. Anything beyond that and they need to play like we've seen from them on the Saturday nights against Ferris and UAF. After Mankato two weeks ago, Ferris is the furthest trip and that's not until Valentines Day weekend.

This team is on the verge of breaking out in a great way. They just need to do it.
No chance of St Paul unless they win in Grand Rapids and get selected to the West Regional

Whoops. Forgot it wasn't at the X this year. :o St. Paul should be corrected to "Final Five."

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

Why are the 2015-16 WCHA Hockey Playoff Semifinals (4 teams) being played at Grand Rapids, MI called the "WCHA Final Five" when there will only be 4 teams playing????

The WCHA 2nd round used to be 5 teams with a Thursday play-in game... That established the name and it just stuck through the shuffling in the late 2000's....

The WCHA FINAL FIVE...Four Teams, Three Games, Two Days...Brought to you by the same people who counted the BigTen & Big XII

The 2015-16 NMU Hockey team has 12 regular season games left and they are currently (9-9-6).... A NCAA Final 16 At-Large bid seems to be almost impossible for them right now so NMU would have to win the WCHA Playoffs outright and get the NCAA Final 16 automatic bid.... Maybe if NMU ran the table they mite have a shot at a NCAA At-Large bid but that seems to be remote right now given the situation they're in.... One can always hope but we have to be realistic about their chances....

NMU remaining games

UMD @ NMU - 2 games
Alaska-Anchorage @ NMU - 2 games
NMU @ Ferris State - 2 games
Alabama-Huntsville @ NMU - 2 games
NMU @ LSSU - 2 games
NMU @ MTU - 1 game
MTU @ NMU - 1 game

Hope you have a safe trip and a great time in Marquette!

Thanks Davy! This work week will be busy and frantic but it's all counting down until Friday! One of my favorite feelings is the world is driving past your place of work while you head out on a road trip on a day off :)

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

Minnesota-Duluth (8-10-5) @ NMU (9-9-6) on Friday & Saturday - January 29th & 30th at The Berry - 7:07pm EST - 12 games left for NMU in the 2015-16 regular season.... Can NMU take control of these remaining 12 games and make a run in the WCHA Playoffs and win the automatic NCAA Final 16 bid????

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

Duluth's big bonus in the PWR is their Strength of Schedule. They're #1 in the country ranked by SoS. Second is Miami (PWR 22), third is Western Michigan (PWR 30).

It's going to be an interesting weekend between two evenly matched .500 hockey teams.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

For those that haven't followed UMD this season this is one of the most disappointing teams since their 2004-05 club that struggled instead of taking another step after a Frozen Four Trip. No offense but if you would have told me last year that NMU would have a better record than UMD for this series I would have laughed. This team has struggled to score goals and many players are having down offensive years. They've played the NCHC Goalie of the Week 4 times in NCHC play...so maybe NMU will make it against another conference. :D

I'm looking forward to my first trip to Marquette (driving through doesn't count), and with the week of work I'm having I've definitely earned this trip. Been looking forward to this trip since I heard UMD was playing at NMU. Love the UP.

I know restaurants and bars were already mentioned, but if you'd like to do some sightseeing and explore Marquette and the UP scenery, I reccomend a hike up Sugarloaf Mountain or a drive out to Presque Isle. Great areas. Enjoy your trip!
