NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

I watched both the UMD games online this weekend. Friday was a good game to watch and they hung tough what with the late penalties. But Saturday the 'Cats got off to a bad start and couldn't quite rally.

I was wondering why Dahlstrom didn't get the start last night after having the win against UAF last Saturday? There must be some pretty stiff competition between the three goalies. It was tough to see the defense and Israelsson give up two quick goals to begin the game last night.

I'm hoping the 'Cats can get out of this .500 season to end the year. I'd like to see them in GR in a month and a half ! ! !

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

NMU Freshman goalie Mathias Israelsson's confidence has to be shattered after giving up 2 goals on UMD's first 3 shots in the first 3:00 of the game last nite and then getting pulled by Walt Kyle.... I wonder if Walt will go with Tolvanen & Dahlstrom the rest of the way from here on out????

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

In a really weird way, this is one of the most consistent teams NMU has ever had - 26 games in, and they haven't won or lost more than two games consecutively all season. That's never happened before in games played through January. There were three seasons where the Cats had one three game winning or losing streak in the same time period ('94-'95, '00-'01, and '10-'11), but never what they've done this season.

I know restaurants and bars were already mentioned, but if you'd like to do some sightseeing and explore Marquette and the UP scenery, I reccomend a hike up Sugarloaf Mountain or a drive out to Presque Isle. Great areas. Enjoy your trip!

We did both an Sugarloaf Mountain was gorgeous! It was a sunny beautiful day and Gitche Gumme was a deep deep blue. Anytime spent in the UP is a great time. Loved it.

It's doubtful that his confidence is shattered. And coaches rarely make decisions based on 4 minutes of play, especially considering one of those goals wasn't Izzy's fault. He'll be fine. Tolvanen has earned his spot. Dahlstrom has the opportunity to battle Israelson for the other in the rotation down the stretch. And if Dahlstrom continues to play well, being the more experienced of the two, he would certainly have the inside track to join Tolvanen in the battle for who gets the start on March 11.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

Great (3-2) win for NMU over Alaska-Anchorage in Marquette tonite.... NMU Senior Goalie Mathias Dahlstrom played a good game.... NMU Junior Forward John Siemer (5'9" 175lbs) didn't dress tonite???? Does anybody know why???? NMU is now (11-10-6) on the season....

Assuming Tolvanen gets the start in goal tonight? Can we finally break out the brooms? Dahlstrom looked good last night. May be the tandem we need for a playoff run.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

If I can say one thing about the Cat's this weekend... they have the best group of goalies in all of college hockey. Now that they are all healthy, they should have a nice 1-2 punch on the home stretch and going into the post-season!

Siemer was out with an injury.

NMU escapes with a (5-4) win over Alaska-Anchorage tonite to get the sweep and move to (12-10-6).... NMU had a (5-1) lead.... Dalhstrom was in goal for NMU.... Siemer and Sooth didn't dress.... NMU (12-10-6) @ Ferris State (13-9-6) next weekend Feb 12th & 13th....

Nice way to hold on, but NMU needs to show me that there is something to believe in for the last 3 weeks of the season. It's very hard for me to get behind a team that has struggled on the first round of the playoffs for the last 4 years... Yea, we win, but does it mean anything????

..

While not completely season ending, this weekend is pretty much their "make hay or go home," series. NMU holds two games in hand on Ferris but Ferris is four points ahead of NMU in the standings (FSU 4th, NMU 5th). These two teams (three since Bemidji could sneak in) are likely the deciding teams for the final home ice spot.

I was going to say the same thing: 'Cats need to be in playoff mode from here on out!

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

NMU (12-10-6) has (8) regular season games left before the 2015-16 WCHA Playoffs.... (3) of these games are in Marquette and (5) are on the road.... It will be interesting to see what NMU's record will be after these final (8) games.... A very pivotal stretch of the season....

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

Looking forward to finally seeing the "Dumby Barn" in person this weekend. Will be there for Saturday's game. Hoping that the 'Cats can build upon their successes and make a nice push for the Broadmoor.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

Ferris State 5 NMU 1 (Final) from Big Rapids, MI.... Tolvanen gives up 4 goals in 2nd Period and NMU didn't have much offense tonite with only 1 goal.... NMU is now (12-11-6)

Ouch. This hurt home playoff chances. A win tomorrow night will soften the blow. One really bad period and not a lot of offense.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

Sadly I won't be making it to tonight's game. Still need to get to the Dumby Barn one of these years.
