NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

What a cursed building JLA is for the 'Cats when they face Michigan. Beatable Michigan teams suddenly become all-star teams against the 'Cats.

Fourth GLI loss to Michigan. O-for-2 against Michigan in CCHA Championship matchups. 1-6-0 overall against Michigan in that building. Ugh.

Don't panic! Wednesday's opponent is now playing out the calendar, looking lost. Go Wildcats.

Oh, we usually have no problem beating Sparty at the Joe. :D My favorite memories of watching the 'Cats include when "The Magnificent" JML put the puck in his own net to give the 'Cats the lead.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

NMU (7-7-6) will have it's hands full at #16 ranked Mankato (10-6-4) on January 8th & 9th.... It should be a great series.... Very important for NMU....

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

NMU has a great Scandinavian Freshmen Goalie tandem going right now with Frosh G Atte Tolvanen (6'0" 190lbs) from Finland & Frosh G Mathias Israelsson (5'10" 185lbs) from Sweden.... How many NCAA D1 hockey teams in the country are starting two Scandinavian Freshmen Goalies????

Did we lose anyone to grades after the first semester? What's the status on Dahlstrom? I assume he is healthy but Walt is starting the two freshman as they are doing phenomenally well.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

Official line on Dahlstrom is that he's still recovering from last season's injuries so Walt is playing both Freshmen....

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

Injured NMU Junior Forward Sami Salminen (6'4" 225lbs - Helsinki, Finland) is expected to be back in the lineup sometime around mid January....

Dahlstrom is still not 100%. Although he is skating.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

Any thoughts on the NMU @ Mankato series this weekend????

I thought Northern looked really good at the GLI, in particular against Michigan. If they play like that again, I think they can get a split on the road. Shine is starting to find his stride. He's a really good player. I think Northern is going to have a strong 2nd half and get home ice for the playoffs.

They'll have to stay relatively healthy for it to happen. That's something they have not been able to do for the last season and a half.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

NMU will have to win the WCHA Playoffs in order to get the automatic bid into the NCAA Final 16 or they could get in with an "At-Large" bid as well and that usually takes 20 wins and a high RPI rating (they're currently ranked #36) so NMU has it's work cut out for the 2nd half of the season with their current (7-7-6) record.... They'll need to have a good 2nd half of the season and do well in the WCHA Playoffs for any chance of getting into the NCAA Tournament....

We're probably a one-bid league this year unless BG or Mankato goes on a rip-roaring tear but loses in the Final Five CG.

NMU's Dominik Shine earns WCHA Player of the Month

January 6th, 2015

EDINA, MN — Northern Michigan (5'11" 175lb) Junior Forward Dominik Shine was honored as the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Month for December, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. Shine was awarded the accolades after leading the league outright in three major offensive categories during the month: goals (6), points (8) and shots (28). The Pinckney, Mich. native was also a leader on the national level. His 28 shots was tops among all Division I skaters, and he finished tied for second in both goals and game-winning goals and tied for eighth in points. Shine will ride a four-game point and three-game goal streak into Northern Michigan's series at Minnesota State this weekend.
