You know, I don't get the big deal on whether the cops have body armor and scary looking guns and Kevlar helmets. Seriously.

This protest tonight...the PD doesn't know what will happen. So they take preventative measures. Having said that, did they over-react? I think they did. But they did not escalate the current overall situation. The protesters (some of them, not all) did by rioting. Any rise in activity due to the previous rioting WILL cause a reaction. And if you do not do what the police tell you to do (and it's not martial law, they said 'protest in daylight') then it's all good. The protesters didn't do that. Just sayin'.
Cops are the referees of life (somebody has to be). And they can be wrong. And frequently are. But when a cop tells you to move along, you move along, or prepare to suffer the consequences. You deal with bad, over reacting cops later. But when they blow the whistle, somebody heads to the box.
That it does. Unfortunately, all another Waco or Ruby Ridge does is embolden different group of anti-government folks.I'm sure they were trying to avoid another Waco or Ruby Ridge, but backing down only emboldens the anti-government folks.
The "story" of a "journalist" who was "arrested" last "night"

Oh you're cute. I was asking a serious question because I wasn't sure who the journalist was referring to with he or they in the tweet you posted. There was no context.
Was it the kid who was shot? Someone who was teargassed?
Bingo. Video, eye witnesses, etc will sort itself out later.
The bigger question is why are you defending the destruction of the first amendment?
Yeah, the camera thing bothers me too. They have to know it won't be heeded. So why even say it? Dumb, dumb, dumb. Makes it seem like they are going to march in and start firing live rounds.

How is aiming weapons at peaceful demonstrations during the daylight not escalating the situation? And peaceful demonstrations can only happen in the daylight?
I'm not condoning any rioting, but that whole situation is a big **** sandwich and the police sure need to take the overwhelming big bite of it.
And no one is blaming the initial rioters/looters for putting the police on edge. Now, when a group gathers in that area...guess what? The police are going to prepare for the worst. Again, the police over-reacted yesterday with the actual firing of rubber bullets/tear gas, but frankly, they are getting sh* on more than they should, in the public eye.
I would hope that most police agencies would be able to tell the difference between a riot and a peaceful protest. But since the Furguson police cannot tell the difference between an unarmed person with their hands in the air and someone who needs to be killed with deadly force, well.....I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
