It took me half an instant to decide to turn around and go the other way and go around the block to my destination. I didn't try to reason with him. I didn't tell him that "I live here." I didn't tell him that I pay his wages. I didn't tell him that I have rights as an American.
Pretty simple really and yes, I know that I'm not a black male, but the risk to me getting his night stick upside my head was real as he had it ready and they (the cops) were on edge due to events that had played out earlier that night.
Life went on and I still believe that I have my freedoms as an American.
That said, I don't like hearing about the suppression of the media although we are hearing a most likely biased account of what is happening. Anyone who's been around reporters can tell you how annoyingly persistent and obnoxious they can be to get their scoop.
