This is sickening. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/01/0...t-strip-clubs-liquor-stores/?intcmp=obnetwork

Our hard-earned money going to these piece of **** bottom feeders' lap dance and liquor fund. Pathetic. Anyone who is caught using their benefits like this should be banned from the program FOREVER. And no, I don't give a flying **** if that means they have to live on the street, they deserve it.

You're absolutely right. It's especially an insult to all of the working class people who get up every morning and schlep to their jobs, because it's the right thing to do.

I've often thought we might solve two problems by hiring "welfare moms" who want a future, as case workers. They would certainly be better off with the training and benefits. And they'd be far less inclined to take at face value the various excuses and lies told to well meaning "social worker" types. Start up would be expensive. But once in place, such a program would probably massively cut down on the number of fraudulent applications for assistance.

Only in the People's Republic of Boulder!

Let's see: where do I begin to deconstruct this nonsense? How about starting with the TV station's assignments editor who, instead of laughing so hard the milk came out of his nose, actually thought this staged event was "news" and assigned someone to cover it. Then, in the editing process, managed to spend about 3 seconds giving the "official" response and nearly three minutes to an idiot woman (among others) who compared the cops who killed this flea bitten animal, to Adam Lanza. That's not reporting, it's propaganda. I'm certainly no expert, but how much damage to a child could an animal that size do? And maybe, just maybe, there were some residents of that neighborhood happy to see this gigantic, damaging, mooching, scat producing machine out of their lives. Is it possible the cops were responding to a call for assistance? Possibly the "reporters" from the TV station could have found at least one neighbor happy the pest was gone to put on the air. Nosiree. But we did get the stupid cow who compared police officers to a demented mass murderer. That "story" rates an F.

I'd imagine the animal in this clip is as capable as the one in Boulder:

On the bright side: by being so stupid as to post that on facebook, I would imagine he saved the police department at least a few hours of work.

Illinois is doing a **** good job of challenging California for the title of "Biggest Piece of **** State".

The pure stupidity of these people is mind numbing. If I lived in that **** hole, I'd be looking for jobs elsewhere.

Meh. More of a "gun control discussion" item than a "Nice Planet" one, but I'll take the bait here.

The linked article is (naturally, given the source and the fact that the legislation is still a work in progress) light on quite a few key details, but from what's there it would seem that existing weapons are allowed to be kept (but need to be registered) and the only comment on magazine restrictions were a limit to 10 rounds (not terribly inconvenient, really, especially for hunting weapons).

I think the real problem that isn't discussed in that story (or in most legislation on the subject) is the issue of access and licensing. IMO, the process to properly own and be licensed to operate a car are more intensive than the process to do the same with a gun (although concealed carry permits can be a different story). If you ask me, that's backwards.

I consider it a "nice planet" story, just like I consider violations of free speech "nice planet" stories.

This is what I have the biggest problem with:

"One measure would ban the possession, delivery, sale and transfer of semiautomatic handguns and rifles. People who currently own such weapons could keep them but would have to register them. The bill would allow semiautomatic weapons to be used at shooting ranges, but those facilities would be regulated."

It is poorly written. One sentence says that it will ban the possession of semiautomatic handguns and rifles and the next says you can keep them if you already have them. Those contradict each other. Either way, I am 100% against any legislation that restricts firearms because they are "semiautomatic". Limit clips at 10 rounds...fine, I can deal with that, but semi-autos, **** no.

And then just like when Russia became the Soviet Union, once you go to register them, you are executed. http://english.pravda.ru/opinion/columnists/28-12-2012/123335-americans_guns-0/

Oh, you two are just adorable. We can protect second amendment rights without turning into an Alex Jones flavored nutbar.

Those who do not learn from their history are doomed to repeat it. We have learned in the past that governments are not to be trusted.

I agree that a blanket ban on semi-automatic weapons is an idiotic way to approach the gun violence/gun problem we have in our country. It seems more appropriate to look at the licensing and registration side of gun ownership (I shouldn't have to try to get a concealed carry permit for it to be more work to own a gun than it is for me to own and operate a car, and even that's still less work in some states) and taking a good look at how we can make the ATF more effective at it's job.

I think the required registration thing is probably going to happen, but I don't like it. If the government knows I have guns, they can come to my house and try to take them. It is better if they don't know I have them. Even though I only have 2 right now that are not registered, because I've bought them in private transactions, and 4 that are registered because they were purchased at a store, that still leaves 2 that they wouldn't know about. (If I had any impression that the government wouldn't overstep and require registration, I wouldn't even mention those 2 online, but as it is, if they require registration, I'll probably register them)

Re: Nice Planet, Part 2: A-holes on parade

I think it's cute that so many think that their personal armories will protect them from the government should they decide to come calling.

What are you going to do against a drone? Or a squad of soldiers?

You're gonna get dead and while I applaud the sentiment of "At least I'll take a few of the ******** with me!", you probably won't.

Personally, I'm far more worried about the moron with his own armory living down the street (although I'm BARELY concerned about that) than I am about the gubment coming to lock me in a re-education camp.

Some of you paranoids crack me up. Got a few in my own family too.

There are millions of us, with millions more guns, should it come to the point where the government is using drones on the American people.

The government really can't go start collecting guns, because we won't give them up. Many people will end up dead if that situation comes along.
