Re: Nice Planet 2010

Scary, isn't it. Where do we draw the line? Even if it's a huge, poorly defined line.

I mean Rastafarians smoke weed as part of their religion. Where's the difference?

Re: Nice Planet 2010

At what point does someone sacrifice a live chicken in school and claim it's part of their religion?

I know. I can't believe we haven't already legalized human-animal marriages because everything that happens new is guaranteed to lead to the complete destruction of morality and decency in this world.

The judge's ruling imho was preposterous but so is your extrapolation.

Where do you draw the line? if religion is used to make body piercing acceptable to avoid rules what else is? What happens when someone brings in shirt that says "Bong Hit for Jesus"? That's a first amendment right issue if I've ever heard one.

Re: Nice Planet 2010

Where do you draw the line?

Well surely it should have started with never letting them negras and wimmin vote.

You can roll your eyes all you want, but your smarm doesn't lend your sophomoric hand-wringing any more credence. Society has progressed for thousands of years yet somehow we've still managed to hang onto the vast majority of social constructs. So sorry if one legalized friggin nose-piercing (as bad as a decision as it was) doesn't make cry we're going to hell in a hand-basket.

Hey, I'm not against the nose-piercing, I'm all for it. I'd never do it personally but still, using religion like they did was pretty weak. Courts have historically ruled in favor of schools in limiting of first amendment rights for kids while in school. I think it should at least be consistent.

So I ask you again. Where do you draw the line? nose-piercings? "Bong Hits for Jesus" (where I also supported the student)?

Did you know that women's suffrage is still going on to this day?! We need to stop it. It's a terrible thing that women have to endure. End women's suffrage! Who's with me?

I get what dx is saying, but yeah, it's a little drastic. Then again, 20 years ago, who'da thunk that the piercing case would even make it to court?

this is stupid on so many levels. all justin bieber nonsense aside - this other dude corners him, calls him a fag and, then has his dad press charges after he may or may not have gotten hit for running his mouth?

Bieber should have clocked this punk big time. The father's quote is incomplete: "I'm a lawyer. . .and I know a potential payday when I see one." Who's worse here, the asshat kid or his bottom feeding father? One potential problem: lots of people have a lot invested in the money Justin Bieber generates and they'll go to the mattresses to protect their investment. It's not like they're just gonna roll over and write this avaricious putz and his snot nosed punk spawn a big check.

And whatever this episode was, it definitely WASN'T gay bullying of the type we've been hearing about lately.

I would say the kid is brilliantly smart or his dad is. THey are looking for a payday.

Pace University Football Player shot dead after hitting officers with car.

Honestly guys. Its not Grand Theft Auto out there. If the cops knock on your window, roll it down, they really just wanna talk.
The kid came from out my way. The story the way it was covered out here did sound as tho things were questionable when they were interviewing people. The family have hired a high powered attorney who is already on the news spouting very, very inflammatory rhetoeric about police and guns. Made me want to slap someone up t' side of the head. I can't see how his going off like that is the slightest bit productive if they really want to find out what is up (which, from what little I saw, is what the family is really seeking because the reports do not seem in character with what people knew of him).

One nearly universal phenomenon in these cases: "witnesses" who tell TV "that boy wasn't doin' nothin' I saw the whole thing and they just shot him like a dog." Etc. Etc. Except when it comes time for an appearance before a civilian review board, under oath, or at trial, also under oath, these dudes are always out of town.

Based on what we've been told, this was not a bad kid. But he made a terrible mistake. Unless you're shooting a reunion episode of "T J Hooker," driving with a cop as a hood ornament is generally not a good idea. Again, based on what we've been told, he managed to hit two cops with his car. That doesn't sound like "he was just moving his car to get it out of the firelane" to me.
