NHL 2021: I Pledge Allegiance to Gritty

I think I'd go with a guy like Brett Hull. He seems like a guy who is always pretty upbeat, plus you're never exactly sure what he's going to say.

Ryan Miller will retire at the end of the season.

Winningest American goalie in NHL history at 390 (though Quick may end up passing him), a Hobey Baker, a Vezina, and an Olympic MVP. Even won Big Ten Athlete of the Year before Big Ten hockey was a thing. Somehow the last trophy he raised, though, was all the way back in 2001 in the CCHA tournament.

I don't like it when they call the Coyotes the "desert dogs". I think to get a nickname you have to have mattered at some point.

I'm not saying someone needs to remove a skate and attempt a stabbing, but someone needs to remove a skate and attempt a stabbing...

Pretty much. The sport is ultimately supposed to have A Code where you self-police when the league does nothing.

There are players out there who could end Wilson's career.

It's time for him to go.

Or the NHL could, ya know, actually punish players.

Or least call cross-checking penalties.

I have no idea why Wilson gets away with what he does. He should have had long (season-length) suspensions long ago, and he should be on notice for banhammer. He's crap and he's a lethal threat.

The PA are the guys who should be after these guys the most.

I think calling cross-checking would really open up the game. It's crazy how much of that crap they allow.

Weren't they supposed to do this when they started calling all the Ulf Sammuelson Impeding / Headhunting stuff like ten years ago?

I thought the whole idea was a league where Sidney could roam free without having to worry about the Bertuzzi / McSorley psychopaths.

They basically allow defensemen to cross check people in the back in front of the net. It happens all the time.

You are supposed to be allowed to clear guys out by pushing, jostling, etc.

Maybe the solution is to have zero tolerance on cross checking AND to force forwards to remain in motion when crossing in front of the net? You can't just camp out there, I get that. x seconds in the paint, that sort of thing?

Well, then crosschecking isn't crosschecking. But, maybe a 3 second rule and paint like basketball is the answer.

Or just use your body and not your stick.

Like you’re supposed to.

1. The amount of cross-checking that's allowed is beyond absurd. And I don't mean love taps but full on mauling.
2. The players brought this on themselves by agreeing to a max penalty of $5000
3. I'll never be a huge defender of "the code" but even still the problem is the NHL seems to take a harsher stance on players that would look to pay Wilson back than Wilson himself

I am all for enforcing the rules.

Don't get me wrong, I hate Don Cherry Hockey. But if the refs won't do anything better one guilty guy paralyzed than a dozen innocent ones.
