NHL 2021: I Pledge Allegiance to Gritty

Wilson didn’t get suspended for the same reason refs don’t call cross-checking: It’s entertainment.

Now, everyone talking about the NHL, people will tune in to see someone bash Wilson’s face in, and the NHL makes money.

Of course, they’d make more money by actually allowing skilled players to use their skills without fear of getting decapitated by goons like Wilson but, what do you expect from a league whose Department of Player Safety is run by George “Violent Gentleman clothing line” Parros and overseen by VP Colin “how am I still employed” Campbell?

Edit: Also should mention, the dinosaurs at the league office love the bloody, gruesome injuries. Reinforces the image of hockey being a “tough man’s game” to them.

Is this still true?

Because everything else the league does smells like Harvard MBAs figuring out how to charge the same for one fewer McNugget.

Colin Campbell is still the Director of Hockey Operations (which oversees the Department of Player Safety). If what I said wasn’t true, Colin Campbell wouldn’t be the Director of Hockey Operations.

This new NBCSN scorebug is interesting. Looks like it's made for baseball.

Also an odd move since the network won't exist in a few months and NBC won't have hockey after this season. So they went through the trouble of a new graphics package that will basically be used for one postseason.

I really hope that is the new baseball graphics package, because the local NBC Sportsnets haven't been updated in years.

And what game was on national TV last night, with a bunch of fights and trending all over social media?

New York v Washington.

It’s almost like they planned this…

Seriously? The Rangers should instead donate $250,000 to a traumatic brain injury center instead. What is the NHL going to do if they refuse to pay it? Or - every other club that has had players injured due to that POS should chip in for the fine and make it known that they are doing it.

I consciously chose to continue watching the Mets losing by 6 runs in the 8th inning of a meaningless May interleague game rather than move my eyes 5 inches to the right and watch my team in overtime in a Stanley Cup playoff game against a rival.

The NHL did it. It killed my interest in pro hockey. Raise a glass to freedom.
