Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Pick Your Overtime Winners!

Why does everyone keep down playing the "Raffi Torres is a wreckless dooshnozzle" factor?

People don't see him as often as Matt Cooke unless they liked staying up late to watch Canadian teams and this year Phoenix, who no one watches.

This.

Rimbaud is right on about the repeat offender thing. He did the same type thing to Nate Prosser.

Shannahan even said that he got done talking to Torres earlier for the same thing.

Here's the explanation on the Hossa hit.

Sharks will win because God will punish the Blues for that national anthem performance.

Jason Spezza. Professional scumbag. (Not that the Rangers PP will do anything.)

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Pick Your Overtime Winners!

Bob, he had 3 straight games this year with questionable hits that were reviewed by the NHL, which eventually earned him a suspension. He's an extreme repeat offender, who seems to have a few hits like this a year that are dangerous and borderline dirty.

I agree that 25 is a steep jump though, but something needs to give. Heck, even Matt Cooke's learned to not be a Grade A toolbag after a 10 game suspension, so maybe Torres can change, he's actually good at hockey when he's not trying to hurt people. Basically the 25 games makes sure he's not going to play in the playoffs should Phoenix go on a run and every series for them goes to 7 games.

All I ask is that others are treated the same way he is. I don't see that. And I don't expect to see that. But, hey, give a huge suspension to some guy with Phoenix, a franchise nobody cares about, and there won't be much flack.

Why would it be fair for someone with no history of these types of hits to get the same punishment as someone with a long history of these types of hits?

How about making a statement and punishing a guy for specifically targeting the head of a player who was out this year for significant time with a concussion.

Oh wait...he's a 40 goal scorer for the penguins so he can't be held accountable for his wreckless actions including two dirty plays within a minute that somehow only added up to 1 game.

Me too, and the next time someone has 4 run-ins in the same season for this, that they'll get a similar ban too. He was told specifically to watch himself and was warned not to hit like that. There have been other repeat offenders this season and they didn't send messages to them, which is a shame. Will this, going forward, be the norm? Sadly no, but it should be. And of course there's almost no flak, this is what fans have wanted for a while for players like Torres.

The NHL doesn't want Phoenix to flounder, they need them to go far in order to get more value for them when they're finally sold.

And, shockingly enough, people didn't like that decision, and they weren't just supporters of Philly or haters of the Penguins. I've really only seen Phoenix fans upset with the Torres decision.

It would be nice if the NHL gave a star player a message like that, maybe one day it'll happen. But most stars don't make a career out of those types of plays.

I agree Neal should have gotten more than a game. Star players shouldn't get special treatment...

I guess the biggest thing about that situation that grinds my gears is Hagelin, a top line player for the Rangers was suspended three games for one wreckless hit without any priors and then Neal gets away with just one game for two wreckless hits.

You can argue hagelin's suspension has had a major impact on this series. He's a major sparkplug on offense with his speed and the rangers have had a real hard time generating offense without him. Neal misses a game....doesn't really have an effect on the series at all. I honestly think part of the reason the suspension was so low for Neal is because the penguins were down 3-0 in the series and facing elimination.

Sharks coming on pretty strong to finish the 2nd. Good to see. Still hard to score through the 4 Blues players standing in front of the net though.

Then we shall get our guys in front of the net. Thornton!

I hate when you can just see those goals coming...we spent way to much time in our zone that period, had issues clearing.
