NFL Offseason: The Saints won the Superbowl, and are now Marchin on to the NFL Draft.

Re: NFL Offseason: The Saints won the Superbowl, and are now Marchin on to the NFL Draft.

All the talk of low-scoring snoozefests is ridiculous.

Think of a lot of the classic cold weather games, and ask yourself what the score was. 1967 NFL Championship (Ice Bowl)? 21-17 and a great finish. 2007(8) NFC Championship? 23-20 in OT.

2 games. How many crappy bad weather
games have there been?

I'd prefer to see the two best teams play each other with no excuses and no influences that drastically change their game. Sure, sometimes the weather doesn't impact the ecitement of the game. I submit that many more times it alters the game negatively. .

That Pittsburgh/Miami 3-0 tilt in 2007 was incredibly exciting, wasn't it? It was a freakin' Mud Bowl where you couldn't tell one team from the other. You definitely came away from that game knowing who was best!

i'm sure that now NE & PIT & CLE would like a SB in their relatively new stadiums too.

i don't see why not?!?  :p ;)
Do it, I say!
I can understand why the NFL wants to do it, but personally I think it's a bad idea.

If my team made the Super Bowl and I was planning on going, when the game is some place like Tampa or Miami I would probably make a little vacation of it, enjoy the warm weather and enjoy some of the festivities. In a cold weather place like New Jersey, no chance I'd go and make a vacation of it. I'd only fly in in enough time to see the game and leave.

Though the same can be said when the game was held in Detroit or here in the Twin Cities in the 90's, those cities in January or February don't scream out to me as good vacation destinations.
OK, but come on, yes the game will be in New Jersey, but you're less than 10 miles from the greatest city in the world and zillions of things to do for practically any interest you may have. Sure, you're not going to the beach, but you're not going to the American Museum of Natural History if you're in Miami or seeing a hockey game at Madison Square Garden if you're in New Orleans or going to a Broadway show if you're in Phoenix.

OK, but so what? That's part of football. If one conference champion is a dome team like the Colts or the Rams, and the other is one that's built to deal with inclement weather like the Bears or the Pats, why should the advantage always be in favor of the team that's built to take advantage of favorable weather conditions, rather than the team that's built to deal with unfavorable ones?

No.....you'd be laying on south beach with all of the pretty ladies that David Caruso gets to stare at every Monday night.

It isn't difficult to figure out what I'd prefer.

OK, but if that's your thing then there's nothing stopping you from taking a trip to Miami. There just isn't any reason why the Super Bowl has to be that type of destination, as opposed to a different type of destination that has different types of tourist attractions.

You wouldn't make a little vacation of it and go to NYC? Lots to see and do there, and most of it is indoors.

And seriously, would you rather go to Jacksonville? Houston?

If I want to do stuff indoors, I'll stay in Minnesota during the winter. There is plenty for me to do around here and won't cost me nearly as much money.

In the dead of winter when I get away, I don't want to go some place else where it's the dead of winter. I want some sun and warm weather to forget about the misery that is Minnesota in February.

And just for the record, I don't buy that NYC is the greatest city in the world.

There was less uproar about DETROIT getting a Super Bowl then NY/NJ getting one.

Seriously people? GTFO.

If the AFC championship is in Buffalo, work with me here, then that is the way it goes...it really depends on which team has the better record at that juncture. They earned the right to force the other guy onto their field.

With the SB, the NFL has a choice, they could choose to play it someplace where the odds of weather being a factor are completely or greatly reduced. There shouldn't be a home field advantage that wasn't earned by virtue of a better record. If Chicago beat Indy 9-7 in the cold would we say Chicago was the best team in the world?

With NJ, the likelihood that we're talking about snow or -3 degrees is slim; more likely it will be 38 degrees and raining. Nothing real appealing about that. Now, it will curtail halftime, which could be a positive depending on which old geezers they wheel out there.

I love NYC, go several times a year, wife and son just went last weekend...we have been there in every season...it is still good in Feb but that would be the last month I'd pick to go...cold but no holidays, not StP yet...probably less crowded...for good reason.

it's never about being the "best team in the world". it's about winning that day.

the 18-0 patsies were the best team ever in the world, except for THAT DAY. heck, even the greatest show on turf was the best team in the world ever up to that point, ..... 'cept for --(wait for it) THAT DAY!

it's why they play the games (somebody i think has said that). if they are outside in the north and it's cold, ok. if it's indoors and climate controlled, ok. each in their own way can help one team unfairly over the other.

i'll be home watching regardless... even if the stillers are there.:p

This is assuming the home team wins that game. What if the inclement weather actually helped the other team? (Slippery ball causes fumbles/dropped passes; sudden gusts of wind; etc).

It's ok if the game that decides who goes to the Super Bowl is affected by the weather, possibly preventing the "best team" from a given conference making it, but not the Super Bowl itself?

There's got to be a silver lining here....

I got it!

They'll have to find someone younger than 70 to do a halftime show again, because if I'm the Rolling Stones or whatever, I sure as hell am not doing a 40 minute halftime show outdoors in New York in February. I worked my *** off for 50 years so I don't have to play in sleet.

"I got caught up being Big Ben the whole time. I lost track of who Ben Roethlisberger was. It's not something I'm proud of," he told WTAE.

Similarly, he told KDKA, "Big Ben just kept building up. It ended up coming off the field. It kept taking over. Superman kept taking over Clark Kent and you just never saw who Ben Roethlisberger was any more. At the time, I didn't see it. I was gaining everything but I was losing a lot of who I was raised to be."

just shut up and go away.

Michael Vick, Al Davis, Ben Rothlisberger, and Jerry Jones make the top 5 of Forbes Top 10 Most Hated Athletes. (Tiger Woods is the only non-NFL person in the top 5. The only other NFL-er in the top 10 is Terrell Owens.)

Either they should come up with another name for that list ("Most Hated Pro Sports Personalities" would be simple enough), or they should remove non-athletes Al Davis and Jerry Jones.

I imagine Vick is in more trouble? His dog fighting co-defendant was shot at Vick's bday party and part of Vick's agreement with the NFL is that he wouldn't associate with him...
