NFL Offseason: The Saints won the Superbowl, and are now Marchin on to the NFL Draft.

Excellent. Football the way it is meant to be played - outdoors, in the cold. You want a manicured, warm weather, namby pamby fru fru game? Watch the Pro Bowl.
But isn't the Pro-bowl at the same location as the Super Bowl now?

That was a one-time thing.

EDIT: It's NJ.

FYP.

It'll be in Jersey. Not NYC. And the Jets and Giants should stop lying and use the New Jersey name too.

This is funny coming from someone of your caliber using the name "Priceless."

Awesome! And screw all the namby-pamby VIPs who don't want to go to the game because it'll be cold, there are plenty of real football fans who'll be happy to take their tickets.

I suppose imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? :D

Rooting for two feet of snow that weekend.

i'm sure that now NE & PIT & CLE would like a SB in their relatively new stadiums too.

i don't see why not?!?  :p ;)

I'm rooting for two feet of snow the weekend before...then a lot of the festivities will be called off. For the game itself, I hope for an ice storm.

Of course it'll be 55 and sunny.

for that far south i would settle on a noreaster with rain and wind with 42 degree temps.

The NYC forecast for February 9, this year:

Blizzard warnings have been posted for Baltimore, Philadelphia, Newark and New York City.

Please heed these warnings! This is a dangerous storm. Even though conditions seem benign now, they will worsen dramatically as the day unfolds.

As the coastal storm intensifies very quickly today, winds will respond and pick up in speed throughout the day. Wind gusts to 45 mph are likely with even higher gusts the closer you get to the coast.

Visibilities will reduce significantly this afternoon. Even after the snow moves out, there will still be plenty of blowing and drifting snow.

Colder air will also filter into the region with biting wind chills also present.

Please prepare now for these serious weather conditions.

I'm rooting for Pats vs Cowboys - hated rivals of both home teams. :)

Whereas a 1-0 baseball or hockey game can be tense and exciting, a 6-3 SB won by a fumble on a center/QB exchange that leads to a 19 yard FG in the 2nd qtr isn't my idea of a good game.

Sure, sometimes snow or rain can make it fun to watch a game, they also can turn it into a mess and they certainly take most of the skill out of the game.

It might work for the Pats, Steelers or Pack...could you imagine being a Saints fan, going to the SB after decades and losing 3-0 in 34 degree rain storm? Then the next year it is played in Houston...I don't think the advertisers will like it, the sports books won't like it and after the first 'debacled' game they will change their mind and go back to warm weather sites.

"As long as it's still a winter event, the Super Bowl should be played in warm-weather sites or under domes."

Dan Graziano of NFL Fanhouse (Ciskie linked to it on Facebook)

It's a winter event, so it should be played someplace where it's...not winter.

Also, his main point seems to be the risk of a really bad snowstorm postponing the game. When was the last time an NFL game was postponed due to weather?

The Super Bowl apparently is so sacrosanct that it can't get its hands dirty or feet cold. But did Bart Starr use bad weather as an excuse in the Ice Bowl?

How is your Saints scenario all that much different than the Colts a few years ago, playing the AFC title game in a sub-zero Foxboro, and then watching the Pats go play down south, possibly in a dome (I don't quite remember which year it was)? Or any warm-weather/dome team playing a big playoff game outdoors?

The SB hasn't been special or interesting since the 1970's. The warm weather rule is partly to blame for its characterlessness. This is good. Even better if it winds up with killer cold teams like the Vikings, Bears or Browns.

Re: NFL Offseason: The Saints won the Superbowl, and are now Marchin on to the NFL Draft.

I can understand why the NFL wants to do it, but personally I think it's a bad idea.

If my team made the Super Bowl and I was planning on going, when the game is some place like Tampa or Miami I would probably make a little vacation of it, enjoy the warm weather and enjoy some of the festivities. In a cold weather place like New Jersey, no chance I'd go and make a vacation of it. I'd only fly in in enough time to see the game and leave.

Though the same can be said when the game was held in Detroit or here in the Twin Cities in the 90's, those cities in January or February don't scream out to me as good vacation destinations.

Football to me is encompassing all the elements. Snowstorms, muddy fields, possibly 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

I like this move, if it happens.

You want to have nice weather at all times, build a dome. ;) :p

Minnesota plays in a dome ;)

I love this. The elements have always been part of the game and I don't see why that's a factor that should be removed from the Super Bowl. It's going to be the same commercial success regardless of where it's played. Heck, let's have a lottery and just pull all 32 teams out in order. Everyone gets a chance to host. Why not represent every possible condition the league faces on a regular basis?

Residents of NYC/NJ should be glad they have 3.5 years to plan for the apocalyptic snow/ice storm that's going to bury the area Superbowl weekend, 2014, since everyone seems to believe that's what the weather will be like. I think the odds are better that it will be cold and grey, and, if the new stadium is built at all like the old, windy.

You wouldn't make a little vacation of it and go to NYC? Lots to see and do there, and most of it is indoors.

And seriously, would you rather go to Jacksonville? Houston?

The league would move Buffalo's to Toronto.
