NFL Offseason: The Saints won the Superbowl, and are now Marchin on to the NFL Draft.

Honestly he's not worth a first round pick right now. Especially not a top 10 pick.

Of course he's not... but you got to remember, we're talking about Al Davis here.

Couple of tweets:

Our @jasonlacanfora reports that Steelers called Rams over weekend and offered up Big Ben and Rams were not interested.
- Rich Eisen

Commish notified Ben he must undergo comprehensive behavioral evaluation and is suspended for six games.
Roethlisberger's six-game suspension will cost him $2,841,174
- Darren Rovell (CNBC)

Can he run a quick 40 yards? That's all that matters to Davis.

Depends on the co-ed you have waiting for him at the 50. ;)

I have to say, I'm astonished at the NFL players union just bending over and continually taking it on anything that can be viewed as violating a "personal conduct policy" where the only appeal is to the guy who decided it in the first place.

But then, I watched the NHLPA help kill an entire season to avoid a salary cap and the MLBPA fight tooth and nail over drug testing. The way the football guys are going, they'll voluntarily give up free agency in next year's lockout.

Re: NFL Offseason: The Saints won the Superbowl, and are now Marchin on to the NFL Draft.

You are just the messenger...but 'good behavior'??? what is the definition of that in this case? Don't sexually assault anyone in the next few months and we'll reduce the suspension? I get it when they reduce a 15 year prison sentence to 12 for 'good behavior'.

That whole tactic is just a way to mollify one crowd while winking at the other...it is like the non-apology apology and other gimmicks that are more public relations than actual intent.

He has to be out longer than Vick...I love my dog and all but we can't equate dog fighting to raping underage girls.

they were legal... over DL age

his actions however were not legal.

Let's see if Chris Jennings (actually ARRESTED and CHARGED with assault) gets the same punishment as Ben (who was never arrested nor charged). ;)

This is Ben's second time on the Group W bench and he is one of the highest profile guys in the league...not saying Jennings won't get the same punishment but 2 strikes might get you an extra game or two and if you've greatly benefitted by the league using you as a star then you probably get a little more grief when you end up in the police blotter

...I swear I'm not trying to disagree with you on everything:)

we just have different perspectives on this one

I think Brent has a BenCrush.

No, I just don't think the punishment fits the non-crime. :p

Is Ben sketchy? Yes, that much has been seen.

So, let's see what happens here.

This attitude is somewhat bothersome. Something happened. I wouldn't call it a non-crime. Just because he wasn't officially charged does not mean something sketchy didn't happen. The whole situation stinks to high heaven. I'm all for innocent till proven guilty but I fully believe he is responsible for something pretty nasty.

And personally, I do think something happened also.

However, I'm really against punishing suspicion, etc.

That's why I'm really curious about the Jennings situation, since he was charged/arrested, whereas Ben wasn't.

And what happens if that first girl's story is true? Will Ben be punished again? How about if it's false? Then what?

Play the race card! Play the...

Wait, Ben's white.

Nevermind.

In all seriousness, I don't see why a crime has to be committed (or charges have to be filed, etc) for the commish to step in and suspend someone. There is an emerging pattern in Ben's behavior, and it is detrimental to the image of the league. He wasn't charged, but that doesn't mean that people will simply stop talking about it, and pretend it didn't happen.

The league isn't about to ban players from going to bars - plenty of players go out on the town without being accused of raping a college student - but it is going to try to stem the tide of players going out and doing stupid things. Maybe this will make Ben, or some other player, stop and think before they go out to a college bar with off-duty state troopers as bodyguards and take some drunk girl into the bathroom.

Then I say Jennings gets at least 6 games also, if not more (if proven guilty, etc).

Is the alleged crime/crime the same? Nope, but one case involved speculation/lack of evidence/no charges and one does involve those things.

I think the league walks a dangerous line with this suspension. The comparison to Vick earlier in the thread (not looking for the post) doesn't hold much water since Vick was charged, tried, and convicted. Do I think Big Ben is a shady/dangerous guy? Absolutely. But since no one knows what really happened and to punish based on the words of a drunk girl and/or her friends (or drunk guy should that situation arise) is ... also shady. I do think the league should require him to undergo counseling/community service (could someone like him go to a women's shelter to see the potential after effects of his actions?)

Mel Kiper says the Bills will trade up late in Round 1 to get Tim Tebow. All I can say is doesn't that reek of JP Losman? Fight the urge and step away from that overrated hack. Save your pick for Dan Lefevbre if you want a QB.

Bradford first, Suh second. So far, as expected.

If Clausen goes late (or not at all) at least he has someone to comfort him.
