NFL '24-25- lots of potential, any reality?

For the first time in about a month
1. No major Lions injuries
2. Actual help against teams competing with the Lions for playoff positioning.

It was only a matter of time before New England turned into the Patsies. With Vegas winning NE moves up to the 2nd pick in the draft.
I can imagine the books cleaned up with everybody and their brother knowing Buffalo was a sure thing giving 14.

We’ll see how the upcoming weeks go, but it is getting more and more difficult to see the Vikings do anything other than franchise tag Darnold.

I can’t believe those words came out of my mouth. What a wild year.

Whoever did the camera direction on the halftime show needs to do the Super Bowl. That was better than any performance the NFL has done before.

Whoever did the sound mixing needs some work. There were entire blocks that were nearly inaudible because of the music overpowering the lyrics.

I love football scores that end 2.

IINM there has never been a football game with modern scoring (i.e., not the 1860s 1 for TD and .25 for FG) that ended 4-4.
  • Racine Legion defeated the Chicago Cardinals 10-4 on November 25th, 1923.
  • Pottsville Maroons had a 6-4 lead in the 2nd quarter against the Chicago Bears on November 13th, 1927.
  • Pittsburgh Steelers had a 7-4 lead in the 4th quarter against the New York Giants on September 17th, 1950.
  • St. Louis Rams recorded the first 4 point quarter in NFL history in the 3rd quarter against the Arizona Cardinals on November 6th, 2011.
Fun thing I read while researching:

In the first quarter of the 1945 NFL Championship Game, the Washington Redskins had the ball at their own five-yard line. Dropping back into his own end zone, quarterback Sammy Baugh threw for a pass, but the ball hit the goal post (at the time, this was on the goal line instead of at the back of the end zone) and fell to the ground in the end zone. Under the rules at the time, this was ruled as a safety, thus giving the Cleveland Rams a 2–0 lead. The Rams went on to win 15–14, meaning the safety proved to be the margin of victory.

Redskins owner George Preston Marshall was so angry at the outcome that he became a major force in passing the following major rule change after the season: A forward pass that strikes the goal posts is automatically ruled incomplete. This change later became known as the "Baugh/Marshall Rule".[SUP][32][/SUP] The rule was deleted in 1974 when the goalposts were moved to the back of the end zone, thus eliminating the possibility of a forward pass striking them.

Good god:

If both the Rams and Seahawks win this week, however, it's not as simple, because in that scenario, a Seahawks Week 18 win would leave both teams with the same record, a head-to-head split, the same NFC West record, the same record in common games, and the same conference record. The fifth tiebreaker after all of that is strength of victory, and heading into Week 17, the Rams have the edge there, thanks largely to the fact that they have wins over the Bills and Vikings.

And thanks to that strength of victory lead, the Rams could clinch this week with a win even if the Seahawks also win, doing so if they get 3.5 or more wins from the Vikings (vs. Packers), Bills (vs. Jets), 49ers (vs. Lions), Commanders (vs. Falcons), Bengals (vs. Broncos) and Browns (vs. Dolphins).

So basically for the Seahawks, to still be in the NFC West race after Sunday, they need either a Cardinals win over the Rams, in which case Week 18 is for the division title no matter what, or if the Rams win Saturday, the Seahawks need to win, and they need four wins from Packers, Jets, Lions, Falcons, Broncos or Dolphins out of the above six games.

To stay alive we now need the following wins:

Mia over Clv, (won by 17)
GB over Minn, (lost by 2) ... Seattle eliminated.
Atl over Wash, 8:20 pm
Det over SF, MNF

Giants won, Patriots have the first pick in the draft; for now. Buffalo in town next week and they're locked in the 2 seed win or lose. Can't really see Buffalo playing any starters, could the Patriots screw this up and win?
