Re: NFL 2011: The Suck for Luck edition

I was reading the Tebow reactions in this thread from yesterday. I'm not sure what to think.

I do not think Tebow would be as good of a runner being a full time HB simply because at that position teams defend the run. When you are the QB, teams generally do not commit a defender to you. That's why he is such a threat running. No one is assigned to watch him most of the time.

I think Tebow, like any young player, can learn to be a better passer. I'm not saying they will fix all the issues with his arm slot and motion. I'm just saying with enough time and a full offseason (instead of a lockout) with the first team and coaches, he can become the 60% passer he needs to be. Even if he does get better at passing, it only serves to even out the offensive play calling a bit. They will never be pass heavy with him as the starter.

The option much like the wildcat works for about 1 full season. Then teams study and adjust in the offseason and its far less effective. Having 1 week to prepare for something that no one else in the NFL runs just isn't enough time to get everything right. That's part of the reason he's been able to find a way to win games.

Lost in all of this has to be the Broncos defense. Minus the Detroit drubbing, they are keeping the games close and giving the offense a chance to convert late in the game.

Oddly, Tebow seems to be more accurate in the 4th quarter. Maybe they should start Orton/Quinn for the first 3 quarters, and then bring in Tebow for the 4th Quarter, or "Tebow Time" to win the games. :D

He is a polarizing figure, and is really testing the theory "the only thing that matters is winning".

So basically, he's a poor man's Michael Vick.

Re: NFL 2011: The Suck for Luck edition

No, basically he's a junkball pitcher with a 3-0 record and an ERA of about 7.50.

Pretty much this.

The Broncos have been winning because the defense has been playing well against some bad teams (the AFC West can likely be won with an 8-8 record this year, maybe even 7-9). Tebow's sole redeeming feature so far has been the lack of turnovers. They aren't going to win any shootouts under Tebow.

Dan and Craig on Denver radio are saying Elway looked like a politely clapping actor who just lost the oscar.

Oh boy.
LANDOVER, Md. -- The Dallas Cowboys came dangerously close to turning Dan Bailey's 39-yard game winning field goal try into a 54-yard attempt.

With the play clock running down, Tony Romo signaled for a timeout the Cowboys did not have. Fortunately, Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan was granted a timeout a tick earlier to attempt to ice Bailey.

Had the Cowboys been granted a timeout, they would have been penalized 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct, which would have moved the line of scrimmage to the Redskins 37.

Romo said he did not know until after the timeout that the Cowboys had used their two already in overtime. They used their first timeout prior to Graham Gano's 52-yard field goal try that missed to the right and the second at the 7:48 mark after an incomplete pass.

“The clock was running down, yeah, I tried to stop it at one second,” Romo said. “They helped us out on that.”

Coach Jason Garrett was a little sheepish when asked about the play.

“I just saw the whole sequence and they gave the Redskins the timeout,” Garrett said. “It was a good sequence.”

So it's not just the Lions with the extracurricular activity.

Re: NFL 2011: The Suck for Luck edition

The Bills are now realizing they shouldn't have overachieved for their first six games this season to kill their chances at drafting the franchise savior Andrew Luck.

Re: NFL 2011: The Suck for Luck edition

So around word going around Chicago is that Jay Cutler has busted his thumb on his throwing hand.... This will in all likelihood end his season...

The Colts have been a couple laps ahead of the Bills for quite some time now.

Re: NFL 2011: The Suck for Luck edition

The Patriots shouldn't lose in the playoffs to any AFC not named Pittsburgh or Baltimore. I think one of those three will represent the AFC in the SB.

Baltimore I question. They look like Jeckyll and Hyde.

6-8 weeks. And he was playing some of the best football of his career and the team was on a roll. You can flush it all now. ****.

True, but they've beaten Pitt twice. If they played again in the playoffs, I would take the Steelers though. To me, the only losable game left for the Pats is at Philly next week. I'll put them down for 12-4 (10-2 AFC). I have Baltimore at 12-4 right now, but with three AFC losses. So, put me down for New England as the #1 seed in the AFC and then a divisional home game against...possibly Pittsburgh.

Re: NFL 2011: The Suck for Luck edition

Local NBC affiliate is airing its sports news, and after the video clip of Aaron Rodgers finishes, in a mocking tone, Mark Perkins says, "I'm a robot." It's just phenomenal how little personality Rodgers has during interviews. He's like the Brad Childress of QBs.
