NFL 2010: $25K Fine For Talking About Fines

Re: NFL 2010: $25K Fine For Talking About Fines

So the Vikings using TCF Bank Stadium for next Monday night is pretty much a done deal.

Crazy to think they have to use shovels to remove all that snow though. Talk about a menial task.

Link

Also strange that the stadium wasn't built for anything beyond November weather, even in the concession areas.

I wonder what will happen to the 13,000 fans who simply cannot fit at the stadium.

They will be spared having to watch the Vikings and their 4th string QB?

eta: Weather for Monday at the moment looks like a high of 19, low of 7. That does not factor in wind chills.

Dammit. I made the mistake of looking at comments again.

Re: NFL 2010: $25K Fine For Talking About Fines

They didn't winterize it because it was deemed to be too expensive at the time it was built. (I talked to one of the original engineers when I was working on the project I mentioned above.)

Re: NFL 2010: $25K Fine For Talking About Fines

No way every ticket sold over capacity shows would be my guess.

true. I suppose the awesomeness of celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Vikings, with the first outdoor game in MN in 20 years, is offset by the crappy team and cold weather.

Re: NFL 2010: $25K Fine For Talking About Fines

TCF Bank Stadium has a seating capacity of about 50,000 -- about 13,000 fewer seats than are available at the Metrodome for football games. University spokesman Dan Wolter said lawyers also were exploring whether beer will be sold at the stadium, which doesn't allow it for college contests.
Seems easiest to just sell the plastic bottle version of beer since they probably don't have tap systems.

They're supposedly looking into temporary seating as well.

Wouldn't the problem be that the legislature has said that they can't sell beer there? I'm not sure how it was said though, if it was stated that they can't sell beer at University events, then they should be fine, if they said that they can't sell beer at University owned venues, then they have a problem.

Re: NFL 2010: $25K Fine For Talking About Fines

Really it won't matter where they play. The Vikes don't even have a quarterback. Favre's hand looks like it should amputated and Tavaris is ***** and got hurt right away. Webb is the only QB left, and he was drafted as a WR. Sounds like they're going to pull some bum off the streets to play, oh yay. Personally, I hope they sign Jeff George.

Exactly, the issue isn't the lack of taps; it's the university policy.

State policy, not university policy.

Subd. 4a.Publicly owned recreation; entertainment facilities.(a) Notwithstanding any other law, local ordinance, or charter provision, the commissioner may issue on-sale intoxicating liquor licenses:

(1) to the state agency administratively responsible for, or to an entity holding a concession or facility management contract with such agency for beverage sales at, the premises of any Giants Ridge Recreation Area building or recreational improvement area owned by the state in the city of Biwabik, St. Louis County;

(2) to the state agency administratively responsible for, or to an entity holding a concession or facility management contract with such agency for beverage sales at, the premises of any Ironworld Discovery Center building or facility owned by the state at Chisholm;

(3) to the Board of Regents of the University of Minnesota for events at Northrop Auditorium, the intercollegiate football stadium, or at no more than seven other locations within the boundaries of the University of Minnesota, provided that the Board of Regents has approved an application for a license for the specified location and provided that a license for an arena or stadium location is void unless it requires the sale or service of intoxicating liquor in a public portion consisting of at least one-third of the general seating of a stadium or arena. It is solely within the discretion of the Board of Regents to choose the manner in which to carry out this condition; and

(4) to the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center Authority for beverage sales on the premises of the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center Arena during intercollegiate hockey games.

The commissioner shall charge a fee for licenses issued under this subdivision in an amount comparable to the fee for comparable licenses issued in surrounding cities.

(b) No alcoholic beverage may be sold or served at TCF Bank Stadium unless the Board of Regents holds an on-sale intoxicating liquor license for the stadium as provided in paragraph (a), clause (3).
I think this is the original provision, and it has since been updated to not allow it.

That provision specifically allows alcohol if the Board of Regents has a liquor license for the Stadium. The issue is whether or not the Board ever got such a license.

Right but I could only find from 2008. I'm pretty sure our mayor or governor or someone stupid like that recently rescinded that provision in order to collect votes.

Edit: Found the story. Reagents wanted to sell liquor only in certain areas, lawmakers said it had to be the entire stadium or none at all. So they then decided to ban it completely.

So it was a combination of the two groups.

But is there no alcohol sold at concerts and such as well?

I don't think Daunte Culpepper is doing anything.

Re: NFL 2010: $25K Fine For Talking About Fines

Has there been a concert at TCF? I thought they were going to have one with some huge band like U2 or some other BS group, but I don't think it ever happened.

U2's concert for this summer was postponed. I believe it will occur in the summer of 2012.

I thought that if the UMTC Regents approved alcohol sales for this event, that they would be able to sell it. But if they need a license...perhaps not.
