New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

If I'd been offered that kind of money right out of high school to do anything, I wouldn't have gone to college. Screw that.

I agree. You're essentially holding a winning lottery ticket. Set plenty aside for the education of your choice and go play ball.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

He also for mostly better personified the activist owner. Too many of these guys buy teams and it seems like they don't give a rat's arse about how the team performs. Steinbrenner cared about winning and losing, and that's a quality more owners would be well served to emulate.

As much as I hated him (as a result of aforementioned winning), the man made the proper moves in order to do it. If anyone were to look at sports owners to emulate, I'd first and foremost say Bill Veeck, the man who put fans before anything. Right behind (and I mean RIGHT behind) I'd say Steinbrenner, the man who put winning before anything.

I always got a bad case of hayfever at the end of Return of the Jedi. As a Red Sox fan, I'm sad to see "Lord Vader" gone.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Did they do anything for Steinbrenner and Sheppard like a moment of silence? If they haven't, I'm really hoping some a hole Sox or Mets fan doesn't boo.

In England, Manchester United did the 50th anniversary of the Munich Air Disaster where a bunch of players died and a few of the rival Manchester City fans heckled and shouted during the memorial. (Hence, why I hate Man City.) It would be so tasteless if they did that.

Was watching the news tonight and they showed the Seinfeld clips with George working for the Yankees. Did Steinbrenner ever say anything about that portrayal? I hope it amused him, because it was always hysterical when they had Fake Steinbrenner on. My absolute fave was when they thought George was missing and Steinbrenner went to the Costanza's house and was telling his parents and Frank pauses and then yells "What the hell did you trade Jay Buhner for?"

From what I've heard on Michael Kay's talk show, he did get a kick out of it but I don't think he ever appeared on the show. Larry David did the voice for "Big Stein" and those scenes were hilarious.

From Steinbrenner's Wiki page:

The real Steinbrenner had filmed three scenes for the Seinfeld season 7 finale, "The Invitations", but they were edited out when the time of the original episode ran higher than the allowed time, and when Steinbrenner expressed disapproval of the plot about Susan's death (they can be seen in full on the Seinfeld Season 7 DVD Disc 4).

Not seen on Seinfeld, but this is so funny.

Please, make it stop.

NEW YORK (AP)—Yogi Berra is missing Old-Timers Day at Yankee Stadium after taking a fall at home.

Yankees spokesman Jason Zillo says that the 85-year-old Hall of Famer has some bruises after the accident Friday in Montclair, N.J., but was OK.

Berra’s family said in a statement released Saturday by the Yankees that the former catcher is recovering at home and is “extremely disappointed he is unable to participate” in the ceremonies and “see so many of his friends.”

The statement added that Berra hoped to be up and about soon.

A day earlier the Yankees paid tribute to owner George Steinbrenner and public address announcer Bob Sheppard, who both died this week.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Yogi's fine. Meanwhile, some d-bag sneezed and got himself put on the DL. Yogi rules.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

I think this quote sums up my b-day and it's my favorite Yogi quote:

"The future ain't what it used to be."

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

R.I.P. Ralph Houk - former Yankee player and skipper who died at 90 years old yesterday.

Yogi not going to the Hall of Fame this weekend as he has a hairline fracture in his foot.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Houk was a fine manager from what my old man told me. A former military man. Hopefully we don't lose any more Yanks for a while.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

so despite the obvious posturing by cashman after the failed cliff lee deal.. the yankees are back in the trade market for dan haren.

arizona is pretty much looking to fleece whoever they trade, but their price is coming down. but they want young pitching - so I would imagine the trade would center around joba (and probably another arm in the system)

would you make that trade? i personally liked the lee deal a lot better (better skill set, better consistency, as good as montero is/may be - i'd trade bats before pitching)

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

I hope ARod hits #600 tonight - I have tickets for tomorrow's game but don't really want to drive down from Mass.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Chances are if people are talking about the Yankees being in on someone this far removed from doing a deal, it's probably never happening. The Cliff Lee thing blew up and ended faster than anything.
