New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

olney says the yankees looking to make one more trade for a 3B to backup arod (upgrade over pena). i'm assuming that it is wes helms, as he and peralta were the names i was hearing earlier in the week.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Tough loss last night but an encouraging start I thought by Hughes who looked better than he has in a while. Is there a slower base runner than Posada? :( I don't think the Berkman rental will hurt, though he's only a shadow of his former self. Don't know much about Kearns, but I'm guessing he could be OK.

Kearns is better in the field than Thames is, so he's got that going for him, which is nice.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

cashman is simply an enabler of girardi's mismanagement

The Yankees designated Chan Ho Park for assignment to make room for Kerry Wood, tweets MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.

i'm indifferent to this news!

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Curtis and Miranda returned to WB/S to make room for Kearns and Berkman. Berkman hitting in the #2 hole tonight as DH.

Wow! Now that is a ringing endorsement if I have ever heard one! ;)

If it was like 7 years ago, I would be excited to get Wood and Berkman. But since it is not all I can say is this is the best Cashman could do? Was there even a point to making these trades?

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

They're all bench upgrades and good ones as far as I'm concerned. Having Colin Curtis occasionally be the DH was a foreboding sign. Basically they got Berkman, Wood and Kearns for Mark Melancon and almost $5 million. That's pretty sweet.

They gave up basically nothing to get 3 proven players at the Major League level. Melancon had fallen out of favor with the organization because of his inability to make the jump from Triple-A to the Majors and Jimmy Paredes is in Low-A ball and has a plus arm and plus speed, that's it.

I'd much rather have a bench with Berkman on it than one with Miranda in the playoffs. Wood is a good pickup because it's not as if CHoP was mowing down hitters up there. Wood has experience closing and still has a pretty good fastball.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

a little more perspective on the yankees' rationale:

from buster olney:

The Red Sox finished second in the trade talks for Kerry Wood, the Rays finished second in the Lance Berkman talks

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

I think they're all bench players who should never see the field unless it is a 10 run differential. These guys are not going to make a difference. I guess the bright side is that like was mentioned nothing was given up for them. With all that said I don't think a major trade was needed.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

The Red Sox are used to finishing second, so it's OK.

NoMaas hit it flush with Wood - he's got "stuff" but his numbers have been garbage. Which is essentially the same situation the Yankees were in when they signed the Ho Train in the first place. Hopefully this isn't just six of one, half dozen of the other, but right now he seems like he could be a better answer than Joba in the 8th.

Joba has gone downhill in a big hurry.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Three years to the day after hitting #500 (I was there for that one :p) - ARod goes deep in the first for #600.

I plan on buying tickets for August 4th, 2013, regardless of whether or not there is a game scheduled. :D

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

You might want to get a few for next June as well. Jeter should get #3,000 right around then, provided he stays healthy.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Good job out of A-Rod to make the Daily News' Kevin Kernan look like a raging idiot for saying that his chase of 600 was distracting the whole team. What a pile of dopes. I'm convinced there is no competent media covering the Yankees.

The LoHud beat writer takes every other series off it seems and Mark Feinsand seems like he's try to go the Michael Kay route. Pathetic.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Interesting discussion on MLB Radio this morning. Now that Rodriguez has 600 HR, and Jeter should get to 3,000 next summer, which is more likely to happen:

1) Rodriguez hits HR #763
2) Jeter gets hit #4,000

"Neither" and "both" are NOT options.

I lean towards Rodriguez surpassing Bonds. Jeter will turn 37 next summer and by the end of next season should be at roughly 3,100 hits. Rodriguez should be at approx. 630-640 HR at the same point in time, and is a year younger. It's going to be tougher for Jeter to get 900 hits after that than Rodriguez get his ~ 130 HR.

I don't think Jeter will be around long enough to hit 4,000. Rodriguez barring a big decline will probably reach 763.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

I tend to agree, but it took Rodriguez exactly 3 years to get from 500 to 600. Granted, there's an injury in there, too, but you've got to figure that there's going to be higher probability of that now that he's on the other side of 35. If it takes him 3 more years to get to 700, now he's 38 and still a couple years short. And at that point, it's nowhere near a formality that he gets #763.
