New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Chances are if people are talking about the Yankees being in on someone this far removed from doing a deal, it's probably never happening. The Cliff Lee thing blew up and ended faster than anything.

It was over before I even knew it was serious. I woke up one morning to see people talking about how the Yanks weren't getting Cliff Lee and I thought... "um, duh?" Then I come to find out that a consensus had him bound for the Bronx for like 6 hours or something.

It's because Ca$h is a freaking ninja. He slips in and grabs guys and if he doesn't grab them, he slips out again.

For what it's worth, the rumored Haren deal was Joba/Ivan Nova/two warm bodies for Haren.

i would do that. does nova even project to make this team? his minors #s arent impressive

heymen tweets: yankees willing to include nova, mcallister and 2 prospects for dan haren, will not eat $ and give up joba

Nova might figure to be like a AAAA kind of pitcher. Has moments of brilliance and then moments where he stinks. Zach Mac is another guy AZ does want, apparently he's got a family member that works for them and they've wanted to get him for a while. And yeah, Yankees shouldn't have to both eat money and give up the top guy in the trade, that'd be stupid.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

i would love for the yankees to keep joba, send macallister instead and pay the money for haren. joba is rocking a horrific .405 babip and has a FIP of 2.6. all his other indicators are pretty much in line with his 2008 numbers.

i've already said goodbye to macallister in the cliff lee deal and now i'm ready to part with nova too. i know he is young (23) but 373k 183BB in 542 IP (1.33 whip) doesnt really blow me away

plus haren is fairly cheap 12.7M in 2011 and 2012, club option for 15.5M in 2013. add in that pettite is hurt and hughes is on an innings limit this year - i'm game.

potential rotation next year:

sabathia
haren
hughes
burnett
vazquez

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

thats why i said potential, duh. showoff. i tried to find someone to replace burnett, but you took all the good free agents!

royals (soria) mariners (lee) bluejays (holliday) phillies (lee) have all turned down offers for montero. i guess he has a lot of people to prove wrong now!

Maybe they just don't need a catcher?

Well except the Royals, they clearly need someone at every position.

The Royals rumor doesn't hold up for me so I think Stark is being a clown on that.

Seattle used the Yankees so Texas would give them Smoak. Toronto was never going to deal Halladay within the division and the Phillies got Halladay out of their deal (proven stud commodity).

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

sugar dustin moseley is pitching well in his nationals audition

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Speaking of the nationals.. they traded capps tonight, i assume columbus clippard becomes their new closer. hilarious.

of course, smart money might be on strausberg closing down the stretch if he ever comes off the DL - figure he'll be on a tight innings limit if he does pitch again this year.

The Lee and Halladay trades were separate, but the Phillies didn't turn down Montero because the value wasn't good, no doubt he's better than any of the players the Phillies got in return for Lee. They were in a rush to get him out of town for PR reasons (didn't want people to think they'd have both Lee and Halladay) and also didn't want to deal with the Yankees for the same PR reasons, having just lost in the WS to them. Both asinine justifications imo.

No one wants to help the rich get richer. I get that thinking, I just think that doing that when there's a good trade package in front of you is unbelievably dumb and bad for your own team's business. After all, if the Yankees decide to open up their prospect vault for you to get pieces from it... Why wouldn't you take it? Especially when put in the position like some teams have been where they're either getting something for their player or they're losing him at the end of the year anyhow.

Austin Kearns to the Yankees for the always famous PTBNL.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

The Yankees are sending Mark Melancon and Jimmy Paredes to the Astros for Berkman, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. The Astros will pay $4MM of what Berkman will make between his salary and the buyout, Berkman is owed a total of $7.1MM
