Yep, they'll just give up their first round pick. Easier to give that up than Montero, et al.

Dave Winfield is on ESPN right now - I didn't know that Winfield and Steinbrenner had made amends over the years and maybe weren't close friends but were amicable.
Now it was everyone else's fans who couldn't stand him, but deep down, it was only because they wanted an owner like Steinbrenner, a guy who wanted nothing more than to win, more than profits, more than being liked.
The last four words certainly didn't help matters.
That is pretty awesome. They didn't, but it's amazing to see the change in how Yankee fans looked at The Boss between 1990 and 2000. Night and day. From outright loathing (applause greeted the news that he had been banned from baseball during a game at Yankee Stadium) to reverence (the crowd reduced him to tears a few years ago chanting his name).
Always got a big thumbs up from me.Worth mentioning that George Steinbrenner was always one of the most generous donors to the Red Sox' yearly appeal for the Jimmy Fund.
Agreed.I hope the Hall sees it fit to include him next year - for better or for worse he had a tremendous impact on the game as we know it today and even haters tend to grudgingly admit that he was one of the greatest owners the game has seen.
