New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

At my old job, I had a Tom Servo replica sitting on my desk. However, I went on vacation for a week and the cleaning lady dropped it and broke it. I was so heartbroken.

I hope you kept it. A broken Tom Servo is in some ways the ne plus ultra Tom Servo. :)

Wow.

On one hand, all of my dude instincts tell me that that is going to be just fantastic.

On the other hand, the way he describes the scene just seems gratuitous and unneccessary. That just doesn't shock me at all, anymore... it just seems to be what Aranofsky does. I have no problem with explicit scenes in movies, I'm certainly no prude, but it seems like Aranofsky just slips that stuff in just for the fun of it, which I just don't get.

I have a friend (a girl btw) that wants to see that movie quite badly so I have heard a bit about it...the sexy stuff is not just in there for the fun of it, there is a point to it within the story. I watched a long preview of the film and it seems to make sense....plus it is hot :p

And yes, I am letting her drag me to the movie ;)

I can't believe the nerds havent brought this up:

I'm 12 years outside of that interval and I loved it.
You're only 6? ;)

Yeah, hearing that there's a lesbian sex scene in an Aronofsky film just makes me think of the end of "Requiem for a Dream".

Great comment on IMDB, first post in a thread titled, "Disgusting Lesbian Sex":
"I think it's disgusting that in this day and age with a movie that's going to recieve wide release and probably distribution that they're going to have a lesbian sex scene between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis...wiiithout including WINONA RYDER IN IT!"

What always gets me about that stuff is sort of the same issue I have with modern horror movies: suggesting terrible violence is a lot more horrifying than showing it explicity. Frankly, I think that some of the more explicit things from Requiem and tWrestler would've been much more powerful had they been less in-your-face about it.

Yeah, like in Rosemary's Baby where they never showed the kid. letting everybody's imagination fill in the blank there was scarier than showing what the kid was.

Requiem For A Dream

Well, that was one f*ed up movie. I really liked it, though. Doesn't really gloss over anything, makes you squirm at times, and great acting. I will say you kind of have to be in the mood to see a movie like this. It's not something you just pop in because there's nothing else on.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

The Cove.

One of the better and more powerful documentaries I have ever seen. Really beats you down by the end.

Against my better judgement, I'll check it out. If it's as good as you say it is (or even half as good), I'll be swayed.

I'm not normally a PETA/Whale Was/etc. kind of person. I don't like what happens to animals and I tend to be an "ignorance is bliss" kind of person, but this was really moving. It was painful at times to watch. Do NOT watch expecting a happy movie (obviously). The last 30 minutes was brutal. It was sad, really. Unlike Whale Wars, these people have a plan and seem reasonably intelligent enough to pull it off.

Do they spike the whales so that when the Japanese are cutting up the carcasses their tools fail and saw teeth going flying off in many dangerous directions?

25th Hour

I really liked it, except the whole Phillip Seymour Hoffman substory with his student. I thought that was rather pointless and not relevant to the story. Obviously it was fleshing out his character, but why? They really didn't flesh out the other buddy of Norton (the main character).

Tony Siragusa was great in it, too, which I was glad (and surprised) to see.

Finally, I'm glad it ended the way it did. It was a good ending.
