Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Social Network was exactly what I expected. It probably takes massive fictional liberties, but as storytelling it's very good.

Ditto, very fun to follow the story from start to finish. Though as a C.S. grad in '04, it made me wonder what the hell I was doing around those times. :p

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Saw Scott Pilgrimm at the 2nd run theater Saturday (which is now up to $3per ticket - hopefully that means they're going to use the extra $1/ticket to do some much needed maintenance inside) - immensely fun movie. Cera plays himself, the video game references were out in full force and totally awesome (especially the 8-bit versions of the universal logo and theme kicking things off). Clearly aimed at the 18-35 crowd - doubtful many people older than that will enjoy it, and anyone younger will miss almost all the references to 80's pop culture.

I'm 12 years outside of that interval and I loved it.

Same feeling here, though a generation apart. It's like those 12-year old twerps on the slopes who ski around me.

Easy A was very entertaining: terrific supporting cast, bright writing, and Emma Stone was great. The Dad was the Dad I've always tried to be with my daughter. "So, where are you from originally?" :)

Yeah, but no one other than Stanley Tucci can ever be Stanley Tucci. On a side note, would it have been too tough for them to find anyone under 28 to play teenagers?

I took that to be one of many loving references to John Hughes.

Also, nobody under 25 has been able to act since Liz Taylor.

The Score

Cookie cutter plot (one last heist/con job, ohnoes there are twists and complications!), but it was done well. Norton was superb. De Niro didn't do anything but go throught the motions (that's actually not an insult; it's just that he's played this type of person so much, it is now natural to him).

Worth seeing, but don't expect anything brilliant.

And JF: while I was disappointed in "Goats," I have a strange feeling that if I watched it again, I might like it more. This theory hasn't been tested yet, but that's the vibe I got after seeing it.

The Score was so disappointing I actually hate it. With all that talent and all that potential it just fell flat. The ending was so lame my buddies and I figured they forgot to write one originally and just shot that on the fly. Twist endings only work if you give clues along the way (even subtle ones that only make sense in flashbacks) which didnt happen in this movie.

The movie would have been average with a decent cast, but with Deniro, Norton and even a very very fat Brando you have to grade harsher. I will say though Norton was excellent, but it was just a waste.

I see that they've released a "Grindhouse" special edition DVD, which would be *ing awesome, to have it as it was released in theaters.....

but it's only in Blu-Ray.

A lot of Blu-Ray movies come with multiple versions in a single package now. Blu-Ray, Standard and Digital. So you might still be able to get it.

I'll have to see. From what I saw, it was only in Blu-Ray.

Sounds Riff Tastic!!! :D

If you are quoting what I think you're quoting, it's far from Riff Tastic.

Riff Randle, in RNR High School? Awesome movie. Awesome.

Brent, I meant I'll be giving it the MST3K treatment. Kind of what I've been doing to NFL games of a certain team I like.

Oh, it's ripe for the MSTK3 treatment. I love Grindhouse, though. So awesome.

At my old job, I had a Tom Servo replica sitting on my desk. However, I went on vacation for a week and the cleaning lady dropped it and broke it. I was so heartbroken.
