New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

I've often stopped by this thread to look for new ideas and often come away with movies to see that I've never even heard of. :) That said, I recently just completed watching Ken Burns' National Parks epic that aired on PBS last fall (all hail the DVR!). I thought it was tremendous and, having never been to a national park (there are some in neighboring MN/MI, but the closest we have in WI are nat'l forests and a nat'l lakeshore), has definitely inspired to me to visit some soon.

Now I have a question for any Netflixers (Netflickers?) out there. I do not at present have Netflix, but what I do have is an Excel spreadsheet of 300+ movies that I currently want to see (probably mostly terrible according to the film critics in this thread). I've long been on the fence about getting Netflix but they finally made it possible to stream via the Wii (ba dum dum), so now I'm thinking about it more. If I were to sign up, would there be a quick and easy way to add all of these movies to a queue? I don't think I'd enjoy adding them one by one. I'd email Netflix but apparently they don't have email support and I hate calling companies for any reason. Any thoughts? Or should I just stick to my occasional Redbox habit?

Basically you find the movie and at it to your list like ch2 said. You can change your list around (I do that often) in case you are in the mood for a particular title. Also, the more you rate movies, the better Netflix suggests movies for you (I've watched quite a few I never heard of because of this).

Also, not all titles are streaming, but that list is growing, as they make deals with the studios.

Depending where you live, turnaround (mail disc off, get one back) can be as little as two days: mail disc Monday, get one back on Wed.

There's also this really cool thing that they're adding in November, I think, that you'll be able to add a movie to your queue that's still in theaters and then when it comes available they'll send it to you automatically as your next movie in queue (if you put that as an option). I think they're adding it in November.

You can add movies that are still in theaters right now (Machete is in my queue as we speak, as is Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, and Tron Legacy). Just search on a movie that you know isn't on DVD yet and click on "Save." They'll show up in your Saved DVD queue, and they don't have release dates on the DVD until around a month before they come out. Then, they pop into the viewing queue just before they are released on DVD...

As an example, I added Get Him to the Greek when it was in theaters, and under availability it said "Unknown." It now says "October 2010." I did the same thing with MacGruber, and it popped up to the regular queue maybe a week ago. Under availability it now says "Releases 10/5/2010."

edit - FYI, right now, those movies are added to the end of your queue, and you have to manually move them to the top, just like any other movie you add to your queue...

You can go online and add all the movies to your queue and they'll show up on the Wii. BUT they will send you the DVD of whatever is your first selection.
Thanks for the info all. To be clear, adding movies one by one by searching for them is the only way to add them to your queue? Like I said, I have at 300+ and well, I'm lazy when it comes to this. :)

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Yep... One by one... You can add series for some things but not many.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Danny Trejo is overrated...he hasnt been cool since Deniro popped him in Heat :D Not to mention I dont want to pay money to watch a movie that is just stupid and that is the draw unless it is at a drive in and I bring a chick. (re: Not watching the movie) I dont like anyone associated with that movie so while you guys use that as your substitute for women I choose not to ;)

I did however see the Expendables and love every minute of it! Ya know why, because I got to see Jet Li fight Dolph Lundgren! Think about that for 10 seconds, Ivan friggin Dargo vs. a Kung Fu movie guy! Plus Randy Coutre beat the snot out of Steve "Half as talent as the Rock and Almost as Overrated as Trejo" Austin and Jason Straham vs. and entire army! Plus Stallone mocking Arnold in a church! :D

The Expendables is everything that was right about action movies in the 80s. Machete looks like everything that was wrong about movies in the 70s. You guys can have your bellbottoms and your Cheech Marin...I will take Rambo and the Evil Universal Soldier! :)

The Expendables: Better than Viagra!

Machete is everything the Expendables wants to be. Bellbottoms? None here.

And it's far from stupid. It is just over the top. And by some weird timing, it's actually topical (immigration policies and such).

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Well considering I think you have the worst taste ever in movies, you arent helping your case. :D

Plus The Expendables doesnt want to be anything, in fact it doesnt even pretend to have a point let alone be topical. It is about a bunch of kick *** guys killing a bunch of crappy soldiers and a jerkoff from the CIA. That is all it is, all it wants to be and even when one of the characters attempts to get depth he gets made fun by all of the kick *** dudes in the scene with him. :)

The Expendables: Terry Crews is better than you!

And Machete is one dude on a vengeance mission, kicking all sorts of arse in creative fashions. The subject matter just happened to coincide with current events, which makes it more badarse and hilarious.

The Punisher called, he wants his origin back :p

Though Mickey Rourke almost ruined the Expendables...his face has more plastic in it than a toy store!

Yeah, the Wrestler kinda exposed that fact.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

One man got sent to prison for about 15 years of his life.

One man stopped a burglary simply by being seen in a photo.

Which is more bad asterisk?

One man spent 110 consecutive days in solitary. And now is a success.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Let's put it this way: all those actors who play tough guys onscreen...Trejo lived it, and is dialing it down nowadays:

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/sl0pGvtvPd0?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/sl0pGvtvPd0?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

If this is what I'm thinking of, it's part of a deal they cut with particular studios, so all first runs will not be available.

In any case, Netflix streaming is the best thing to happen to TV in history, ever, the end.

If I were reshooting the scariest movie ever made, The Golem, I'd cast Trejo. He is frightening just standing there.

Mean Streets

One of Scorcese's first movies, and you can see that the seeds are there for him to grow into a great director. The story is good, and some of the shots are excellent (like the eventual steadycam shot made infamous in Goodfellas). Could have used a little more detail in where everyone ranked in that faction of the gang/family. You got a decent idea, but he could have fleshed it out.

I really hope it was due to budget, and I would think I am correct in this (as they couldn't afford a lot of tracking shots). If you're a fan of his, then yeah, it's a should-see. If not, then I dunno what to say. It's worth seeing, but not enough to go out of your way for. Without any sort of bias or fandom involved, it was an average movie.
