Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Finally saw Juno. Loved it. Sue me.
The only part that bugged me about the movie was when she yells "Thundercats GOOOO!" She's far too young to have seen that show as a kid, and it didn't get back on TV until after that movie was released - probably because that movie was released.

What should bug you is that is a mixture of two different sayings as opposed to something actually said on Thudercats.

It was a teen hipster reference, like Mott the Hoople. Or, for that matter, all her musical taste. To a 16-year old, Iggy Pop is like 90 years old.

Whatever. I watched the show all the time as a kid, but I couldn't tell you the exact line.

I get the whole teen hipster thing, but music is easier for a kid to come across than old shows that didn't really hit the re-run circuit. The cartoon reference just seemed the like the writer trying too hard, too forced. It's a small gripe against the movie on the whole, but it still bugged me.

Guilty too. It's one of my DVR favorites, and I don't normally go for the proverbial "chick flick". Michael Cera was cluelessly awesome. Loved the references to The Melvins and Sonic Youth too.

Mark is my cautionary tale. I don't think I'll ever wear my Social Distortion shirt in public again. :p

Speaking of clueless, I just noticed Ellen Page also played Ariadne in Inception. I had no idea.

Juno is absolutely the best use of Michael Cera's one-note acting.

Definatley a high quality film, with lots of good character moments. I think Ebert put it in his best of the '00s list.

Doesn't it actually make more sense that she actually misquotes the show? She may not have watched it (and I would dispute that there's no way she could have seen it - I clearly remember watching episodes a couple of years before Juno came out), but it is a rather well-known pop-culture reference. Chances are pretty high that she'd heard the line somewhere.

EDIT: also, I love the movie, and I'm not ashamed one bit.

So it's meta-meta-ironic.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

I'd give it up for Diablo Cody. Just sayin'.

You want herpes that bad? There has to be easier ways to do it. ;)

That said Juno is quite good...when Ellen Page is arguing with Jason Bateman and he is talking about Nirvana and she is talking about the Stooges it was pretty funny :)

Plus, who doesn't love J.K. Simmons?

She also had a recurring role in one of the early seasons of Trailer Park Boys, which if you haven't at least given it a shot, is well worth it.

For a mockumentary series made by an obscure Canadian studio in Nova Scotia, its fantastic.
