New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

My wife gets full credit. I walked out of Knocked Up after ten minutes. She stayed for the whole of Machete, but I could tell she'd had enough after the first 5 ridiculous kills, which is 90 seconds, tops.

Put it this way: if you took my middle school notebook doodles and made them a movie... it was distilled awesomeness. :p

What about the cell phone? :p :D :D :D

Saw a Machete trailer on tv. Mentioned (related to the rating) "strong bloody violence throughout."

Yeah, that's an understatement. :D

Pretty good take for Machete. More $ and a higher finish than I expected:

Edit: if you have Netflix, "Champion," a doc on Danny Trejo, is on Play It Now. Guess what I'm gonna watch tomorrow. :D

What is wrong with Boys II Men? I saw them at the Fair this year :D

Saw it last night. While I'm all for cartoon violence and mega action, there was something missing with this. Maybe it was the dialogue. I was expecting more quips and funny comments. It just seemed to take itself a little too seriously. Though I loved that machine gun that blew people apart.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Saw El Mariachi today. I liked it just as much as Desperado for different reasons. I like the rawer style (yeah, I know it was a super low budget movie) but it added to the movie, I thought.

Also saw "Champion" (the Trejo doc, which is really just kind of a long interview). Some of the stories he has are hilarious. Also, seeing him go back to his cell in San Quentin was kinda tough to watch. He got really emotional; on the verge of tears.

I saw it in the mid '90's when I was in college* (low budget doesn't even begin to describe it - it only cost $7,000!). I think I liked Desperado, but a bit less becase I knew how awesome El Mariachi was...

*NMU had Gonzo Films back then, but I see that it's called Gonzo Media now. I joined that group and we brought some great films to campus - Reservoir Dogs (this before Pulp Fiction, and before anyone knew the name Quentin Tarantino), Tales from the Gimli Hospital by Guy Madden (and Madden came and spoke before and after the film, answering questions), 32 Short Films about Glen Gould, Solaris, and a whole lot more... One of my favorites was seeing Chinatown in true CinamaScope. The films were shown in the largest lecture hall on campus (JXJ 101), and the screen wasn't wide enough to show the entire image if we showed it as tall as we could. Still, the extra few feet overhanging the sides was a fine compromise for the enormous size of the screen.

Why is Shia LaBouf (sp) in every movie? He is ruining countless movies that had a chance to be good if not for him.

No kidding.

And moose: yeah, saw the budget thing on IMDB. Glad I could finally see it (IFC has been playing it lately).

Documentary version of Freakonomics. Good job all around. Like the book, there's something in it to offend everybody. :)
