Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Very true. I haven't even though about that... I have season tickets to football and hockey at the U this year... It's going to be bat**** crazy this fall/winter. I think if it comes to it I'll just put my membership on hold and save some cash while I go through the burned movies.

Well, even if you only go through one movie a week, you easily pay for the biggest plan that they offer (going by current rental prices; not counting the Redboxes due to lack of selection).

Yeah, I have the two at a time. I'm thinking about adding blu-ray but that would shut down my copying scheme... Unless I got a dedicated computer with a blu-ray writer. Not worth it right now.

I don't think my DVD player is even up-converting, it's that old. :o

I'll fix that one of these days. Doesn't really bother me at all.

I still think they should be checked to make sure they were not part of some sort of a cloning experiament. ;)

They are the next generation Ben Stiller, only instead of this (c) Best Page In The Universe:

Each of his characters is unique, displaying the full gamut of emotions on the spectrum (of emotions), ranging from: extremely quirky and neurotic to somewhat quirky and neurotic.

they play the insecure sensitive needy wishy-washy pu*y.

We watched "Letters from Iwo Jima" and "Easy" this weekend. I've always enjoyed "Letters", since it provides a very textured and humane expos'e of the battle from the "enemy" perspective. An indie, "Easy" was her idea, and it turned into a pretty decent movie exploring the dyanamics of love, lust and human relationships.

In Bruges. Fan-****ing-tastic. One of the best films I've seen in years.

As if anyone needed further proof that film criticism is purely a forum for debate, and rarely utilized in any sort of practical manner, Vampires Suck—a movie with a 5-percent freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and the general consensus that it is “witlessly broad and utterly devoid of laughs”—debuted at No. 2 this week with $12.2 million, already well on its way to justifying its existence with studio executives who will gladly fast-track another one of these things. And of course, there’s nothing we could have done about, because we’re not America’s mother—and even if we were its mother, it wouldn’t listen to us anyway. If we were like, “America, we just want what’s best for you, and there’s the very real possibility that Vampires Suck will give your eyeballs AIDS,” America would just be all, “You can’t tell me what to do!” and sneak out to see it after we were asleep. Because that’s pretty much what every critic in the country did, and America chose to raw-dog it anyway. Because it’s the American pioneer spirit, and because teenagers need a cool, dark place where they can gather and text each other without the distraction of story, or even discernible punchlines. So thanks to that impudence, the Friedberg/Seltzer machine rolls on. We’ll see you again as soon as they get around to making 3-D Movie, which we’re anticipating the announcement of any second now.

Say what you want about the value and percieved self-importance of critics (in fact, Pixar once had something quite brilliant to say about them), but you can't really argue against the fact that it is shocking and horrifying that the Friedberg/Seltzer team continues to make money with movies that have seemingly no value whatsoever.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Film Drunk takes care of business well.

Vampires Suck is like that obvious joke anyone with a sense of humor skipped over. You just assume anyone with half a brain already put it together in their head a quarter second after they saw the first Twilight trailer. A whole movie making fun of Twilight? What’s the point? It’s already funny on its own. That left Seltzer-Freebird the only game in town. “Awesome, dude, someone’s finally stickin’ it to Twilight!” Idiots thought to themselves. All I’m saying is, it looks like we’re going to have to start playing dirty. If people can get outraged over Janet Jackson’s nipple, can’t we boycott Fox for distributing these Al Qaeda recruitment videos? Or at least start punching teenagers? Please? Come on, I really want to start punching teenagers.

Oh who am I kidding, we’ve already lost. Tyra Banks will be elected President, and Heidi Montag will have to take over for Tila Tequila as speaker of the house when the Juggalo majority pelts her with rocks and poop and Brian Pumper CDs. It’s too late, we hit Idiocracy 500 years ahead of schedule. This what happens when Antonio Cromartie and the Duggars contribute 37% of the total gene pool.

Vince Mancini rules.

I just lost the opportunity to go peacefully to my grave without knowing the meaning of "raw-dog."

Agreed. It's one of the few movies where I actually like Colin Farrell. Brendan Gleason is amazing.

Buffalo '66

Yeah, that lasted forty minutes before the excruciating pain it caused me made me turn it off. It felt like I was jabbing my nostrils with a nine-iron while hitting myself over the head with bronzed moccasin.

What a load of crap.

That is pretty much what we all say whenever you post something ;) :p

What?!?!?!? :D

I sound like Winston Churchill compared to this movie. Even the large presence of Buffalo Bills fanaticism couldn't keep me watching.

(500) Days Of Summer

I didn't expect to like it. Heard some good things from friends. Worth seeing. It's like a rom-com, but not. Sorta. I guess the best way I could put it is that it's almost like a subdued modern "High Fidelity" (which is a great movie, btw).

It's snarky at times, doesn't romanticize certain things, but there's still an air of cheesiness (which I'm sure was done intentionally, thereby making it not as cheesy).

Yeah, I'd probably watch it again sometime.

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Loved it.
I thought it was great, too. I'm even tempted to get the soundtrack. Joss had to have been trippin' balls when he came up with the singing cowboy bits.
