Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

No, no it doesn't, that is part of the point ;)

Punisher sucked, this will suck, the cliche genre itself sucks :D

Preemptive strike on sucking? That's one hell of a review. It may be cliche but that in and of itself is the point. Instead of taking itself seriously it will instead make itself fun. Same with Kill Bill, Grindhouse, From Dusk Til Dawn, etc.

It sure as heck won't suck as much as Salt did. A film that decided it just wasn't going to be any fun at all.

Drunk at the Drive In = WIN :D

Drunk at a regular movie theater = EPIC :D

In OR there's a chain of theaters run by a brewery that have dollar admission and very good ales.

I miss Portland.

In NH/MA we have Chunky's, a theater with a full restaurant. You sit in large, comfy seats (either the driver or passenger seat from a Limousine) that recline, and can order food and beer. Saw the 4th Indiana Jones movie there, with a bucket of Sam Adams. Unfortunately, I had to share the beer with the rest of the table.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

I guess I'm the only person who doesnt care about Machete?
No, I'm not all that interested either. I've never seen the Grindhouse/Road Killer (or whatever the name of the other movie was), so this is the first I've seen of the movie.

In truth, before people made the connection for me, I thought this looked like another sequel to Desperado. mmmm... Salma Hayek's boobies...

The Grindhouse (which is the combo name for the double feature "Planet Terror," a zombie movie, and "Death Proof," a psycho killer who uses his car to kill) is awesome. Purposefully cheesy, etc.

Machete was part of a bunch of fake trailers before and between the movies, all done in the same crappy 70's style. The thing was, Machete actually looked awesome enough to make. I never thought they'd actually do it, though.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

"Death Proof" was awesome. "Planet Terror" dragged, despite the "missing reel." The thing about Grindhouse is it is ridiculously high concept -- everything in every scene, from clothes to cars to dialog to shooting angles to upholstery to hair styles, is genre jokes within jokes.

The 70's trailers and lead ins, and poor film quality, were outstanding for those of us who saw 70's movies in the original milieu, but they were probably meaningless to the youngins.

The other trailers were:

Werewolf Women of the SS (self explanatory)
Don't (an homage to Hammer titles getting cut down to meaninglessness in US distributions)
Thanksgiving (slasher dressed as a Pilgrim)
Hobo with a Shotgun (the usual vigilante story)

According to Wikipedia, Hobo with a Shotgun is currently being made into an actual full-length feature starring Rutger Hauer as the hobo. I hope with all my heart for everyone concerned that's a joke.

Thanksgiving (slasher dressed as a Pilgrim)

Is that anything like Thankskilling? Which may have the best opening line to a movie ever. :D

I believe it's on netflix instant view for those with netflix.

I've been thinking about it for a while; you've just convinced me.

HAHAHAHA!!! YES!

The whole room was laughing throughout the movie. YMMV but it was terribly awesome.

With music from General Bastard...that is hilarious and there are so many joke possibilities!

With General Bastard as Oscar the Hermit. Effing sweet.

It did have a hot girl jumping on a trampoline, then the killer stuck a knife in the trampoline as she came down to do the splits. (although that might have been from "Don't")
