Ok I am about 2/3 of the way through Inglorious Basterds...and I wont lie, I friggin think it is boring as hell. How this movie was so criticially acclaimed beyond just the TARANTINO IS DA TRUTH!!11!! crowd I have yet to figure out. This movie makes the idea of killing Nazis actually not fun...

Couldn't agree with you more. I hated that movie...

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Really? Huh.

I know that, for a "war" movie, it's really just a lot of talking. It's nowhere near the movie I thought it would be (I was expecting... you know... a more kinetic film), but I thought it was very good.

How boring you find this movie might depend greatly on how much tension you can find in a long scene consisting of mostly dialogue.

I'm guessing that you guys would hate My Dinner With Andre.

Agreed, the only good/satisfying part of that whole story was the very last scene. The rest of it left me with the feeling that the film was either too serious to be comedic, or too comedic to be serious. That angle worked for a movie like Kill Bill, but for whatever reason it just didn't seem to work for Inglorious Basterds.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

For once I'd love to see a "making of" featurette where they all chit on each other. Perhaps they should do that in one of those "Disaster Movie" movies...dunno, maybe they already have, haven't seen those, but seems like the appropriate forum.

Why would the studios/film makers ever put something like that on their DVD? They are trying to promote the movie and the people involved. Of course it's going to glorify them. The actors involved are, at absolute worst, "say the right thing". Or, at least, that's what will make it through the cutting. You're not watching supposedly unbiased documentary pieces about these movies (and hell, even in the cases where those are included, they'd only be ones that showed the makers/actors in a positive light).

You might be able to find negative stuff in older movies that have been critically and publicly panned over the years (Ishtar, perhaps? Leonard, Part 6?), but even then, the "behind the scenes" stuff and on-set interviews would probably still be all positive about the movie.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Never saw it, but dialogue isnt a problem if it works within the movie...and in this one it just didn't.

I didn't even think the ending was satisfying...just another excuse for QT to put something over the top and violent into his movie. I never got his obsession with that, he is like the comedian who swears too much because he thinks that is what makes you funny and not the jokes. If you are a good director, you don't need to do some of the things he does, the stuff that the QT Apostles wet their shorts over.

Think about it this way, this movie is about a bunch of Jews killing Nazis and I was completely turned off...that takes a lot of epic fail to happen! :p

RiffTrax justifies the existence of the Twilight movies:

Film 1:
http://board.uscho.com/showthread.php?p=4818476&highlight=Astaire/Rogers#post4818476

Film 2:

Astaire/Rogers

The Gay Divorcee - 1934 (Nice title, ay? Clearly a different time/era)

Standard romantic comedy for the time. Not as funny as Stooges/Laurel and Hardy but there's some yucks occasionally and it's fun to see things in a different perspective. For example the gigolo in the film is referred to as a co-respondent.

Best dance routine was Ginger/Fred to Cole Porter's Night and Day IMO.
Awesome cameo of Betty Grable who does a song and dance number.
Film is probably most noted for the Oscar winning song "The Continental" which is featured by a 17 minute long version of it including singing, various dance routines, etc. WAY TOO LONG. It took some doing to get through it.

Next Up: Roberta (Fred and Ginger play supporting roles to Irene Dunne)

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Re-release of Avatar to feature hot Na'vi on Na'vi action... sort of.

http://www.avclub.com/articles/james-cameron-confirms-that-avatar-rerelease-featu,44116/

All those Avatar fans whose desire to experience “the ultimate intimacy” has thus far been limited to cosplay and frustrated, sticky-fingered paging through printouts of James Cameron’s leaked script will finally get their gently undulating wish with the Aug. 27 re-release: Cameron recently confirmed to MTV (who was probably just joking when it asked) that the new version will, in fact, feature that already-legendary Na’vi sex scene. However, Cameron was quick to dampen your excitement, saying that while he’s restored “every last frame” of his “alien kink scene,” it’s only about 20 seconds long and doesn’t quite feature all of the hot, ponytail-insertion action you’ve been longing for:

"I would say, just so that we correctly manage people's expectations," he explained carefully, "it does not change our rating at all. I would call it more of an alien foreplay scene. It's not like they're ripping their clothes off and going at it."

But still, even just the promised sight of steamy “intertwining tendrils” should be enough to help guys like this get through another night of their sadly human existence.

I'm actually posting this entirely because of how hilarious the first comment on that article is.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

We can only hope the re-release will bring about more Post Avatar Suicides...time to cull the herd some more folks! :D

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

post avatar suicides?

Yes a bunch of nerds who loved the movie were on various message boards talking about depressed they were that the world wasn't like it is in Avatar and how they want to kill themselves so in the afterlife they can be there. they truly believed if they died they would end up on whatever the hell that planet was and they could live life how it was in the movie.
