New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Lakeview Terrace

Well, the ending was terribly predictable (at least in the "who wins the battle of differences" battle). However, the racism message was a different sort of punch in the face than movies like "Crash" and "Higher Learning" (of which the latter is so much better than the former).

Really passive-aggressive, and more true to how it is in real life, IMO. Samuel L shines, while Patrick Wilson reminds me of a serious-role Bradley Cooper, only not as good.

Worth seeing once, especially if you're a fan of Samuel L.

Edit: the soundtrack ruled, btw.

Wait, what? There were some good action sequences, though -- particularly the truck & etc. chase in the first 30 minutes.

I can buy a moderately muscular woman jumping from a semi truck to a tanker going 50+ down the freeway, however the jump from the tanker to the fed ex type truck on the off ramp....not so much. Its things like that that are totally not remotely realistic that make me not like these movies sometimes. IF they are going to go for the over the top, ridiculous action scenes(Die Hard 4...Die Harderest) than they need to go all out.

Finally saw Despicable Me. Totally predictable, but I loved it, partly because it seemed eerily biographical.

Just got a NETFLIX account... Liking it so far... Tons of stream-able movies that interest me... Only problem is that I can't get their movie player to work with FIREFOX... Is it Microsoft IE only?

Shouldn't be. I have Firefox and have streamed a few things.

Definitely not IE only, Netflix streaming worked on Chrome (Win 7).

No, it's not IE only, but it's anti-Fooper features work beautifully.

I use Netflix all the time with Firefox; never had any problem.

A movie based on Oregon Trail?

Well, not quite.

"Some people with access to what seems to a large collection of period clothing and props have done the best thing you could do with such a vast library of reenactment memorabilia: made a trailer for a fake film based on Oregon Trail. Don't worry about dysentery coming up. Of course dysentery comes up. Dysentery is Oregon Trail's Joker."

"Here lies poop face."

I can't tell you how many times I wrote that exact name.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

I saw Dinner for Schmucks...don't!

I didn't think it would be possible to make a movie that at least wouldn't be partially hilarious with Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd but man, that movie was downright terrible. Hell, even the name is almost false advertising.

And the previews before it were some of the stupidest movies yet. I really want to watch a movie with Robert Downey Jr., Jamie Foxx and Zach Galifinakis in a truck together going cross country where calamity ensues. And that was the best of the ones I saw!

I would so see that movie! :D

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Saw The Other Guys tonight. Pleasantly surprised. Even laughed out loud a few times. I had very very low expectations though.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Watching "The Prestige" again on cable, a lot of their troubles could have been avoided if either of them were remotely able to recognize the other in disguise. I mean, it's not like their disguises were that good.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Now In Smell-O-Rama!

Saw "The Road" over the weekend. Was OK, but I guess I was expecting more.

Side-note:

I decided (for some dumb reason) to watch the "making of" featurette. Has there ever been a movie where the actor/actress/director interviews aren't some sort of incestuous circle-jerk? Every time you watch one of these things, every director is the "most visionary, bestest EVAH!" and every actor/actress is "so dedicated, wide-ranging, artistic" blah....

For once I'd love to see a "making of" featurette where they all chit on each other. Perhaps they should do that in one of those "Disaster Movie" movies...dunno, maybe they already have, haven't seen those, but seems like the appropriate forum.
