Watched Prometheus yesterday. Pretty good. Worth watching. Interesting take on the beginning of the Alien series.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Saw "Hitchcock" today. I'm sure Hitchcock fans would love it more (there are at least two obvious inside references/nods to his image/work), but I really liked it. Hopkins was great in it.

Also we all watched "Rock Of Ages" again this morning. It's really an awesome movie in the cheesiest way possible.

Side note on ROA: when "Don't Stop Believing" started up, 'diva said (paraphrased, but close enough): Oh no. Please. Why do that to this song?

:D

Because it always gets butchered by some drunken hack at karaoke who thinks they're there to try out for Idol. That would be my guess.

Life of Pi - Really liked it, but was waiting for some profound payoff (in regards to spirituality or God) that never came. Either that or I just missed it. As a castaway story though, it kept my interest. Visuals were good.

Wreck it Ralph - Got this one for the younger son and all of us liked it a lot. Good old school arcade references along with newer video game stuff.

At one point I actually stopped the movie to try and explain to my plugged-in 14 year old how one day there weren't video games and then POOF, there were arcades with all of these video games. All the lights and sounds. It was mind blowing at the time.

He's like, whatever old man. I'm sure it was cool.

-sigh- :o

ROA was a good concert but as a movie it was terrible. The plot was bad with a few exceptions. And of course I had to go off an analyze all the plot problems because they were driving me crazy.
-"Don't Stop Believing" was written as part of the plot, which happens in 1987. Could they at least got close on the release date? 1981 is a pretty far off.
-Knowing that made me think about the other songs, and many came out both before and after that time.
-The main character's name was Sherrie but they never did the song "Oh Sherrie"? *** is up with that? I was expecting it the entire movie.
-I couldn't watch the scene with Russel Brand and the REO Speedwagon song because that song is from my wedding. I hate that guy and didn't want him to taint the song forever and ruin my wedding memories. Yikes!

That considered, I compare this movie to Blues Brothers 2000. The plot was pretty lame so not a great movie, but there was great music and some cool performances that made it worth while.

Enjoyed Argo quite a bit. Perhaps not best picture worthy, but I don't get the angst over it either.

That's why the movie is awesome. It's HORRIBLE, and cheesy, and over the top. And "Oh Sherry" was started at one point in the movie, just a couple of the first notes.

Saw 42. Really enjoyed it. A little bit dramatic at times (like with the Reese thing in Cincinnati), but still good. Would be enjoyable for even non-baseball fans. It really only covered his first 2 years in Montreal and Brooklyn (and they completely skipped over most of Montreal).

Hans Zimmer gave an interview to CNN, and I'll paraphrase some here, he said that he tossed out the entire score written for the '81 version by John Williams. It was something that very much scared him because the sound is just so engrained in the Superman mythos now that he couldn't imagine writing something else for it. Eventually he did, though. There are no wood winds to be found in the score for this version of Superman, a story deeply rooted in hope.

I have never hidden I am the biggest Superman mark pretty much ever. I defended Superman Returns even because parts of it were good despite most of it being weak...

Part of me has been a bit worried about this movie because a lot is riding on it and expectations are high...this trailer makes me very happy! :)

The score will be two hours of the BWOMMMM! from Inception.

Finally a movie of recent history that I have to see in the theater.

Chasing Mavericks

I liked it quite a bit. The surf scenes were filmed well and the the surround was shaking my chair during the big waves. The story and acting were good if not great.

The wife thought it was okay.

The 14 year old snowboarder/longboarder son? Obviously loved it.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Lincoln. I think some described it as wordy, but I was absolutely riveted from start to finish and didn't want it to end. DDl was at his obvious best, but there were other strong performances throughout - I think the only mailed in performance I saw was by Gordon-Hewitt or whatever his name.

I'm also proud to say my 9 and 10 year-olds both volunteered to sit down and watch with me and made it the whole way through.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Oblivion.

Although there were a few stretches in realism (it is sci fi afterall), I've liked no new movie better since the Dark Knight came out 5 years ago.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

I watched The Master last night. I was disappointed in this movie. I was expecting something great, and I only got OK. The acting was excellent, but the story just didn't do it for me.

I had the same opinion of the movie.

Life of Pi. Visually stunning but I honestly couldn't wait until it was over/bored.
