Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Never been much of a Bond fan. Hadn't seen one since For Your Eyes Only in the theater.

My wife, however is a Daniel Craig fan and she watched Bond fils as a kid, so we decided to take on the latest 3.

Saw Casino Royale & Quantum of Solace this weekend. Liked em a lot. Craig seems to me to be a good Bond, but then I wouldn't be much of a judge.

Judy Dench is great too.

We'll do Skyfall next weekend.
The Bond films starring Daniel Craig are much different than the Brosnan Bond films preceding them. They're so much a change in general feel and tone that they've created something of a rift amongst the hardcore Bond fans. If you really like these newer ones, you'll likely not care for the Brosnan films, based upon your stated aversion to Bond films. While Brosnan does a good Bond, he's more in line with the cheeky, smarmy and frivolous character than the serious Bond played by Craig.

Minus Goldeneye the Brosnan movies sucked. Not because of him mind you (you can never go wrong with Remington Steele) but the scripts were just horrid. Not to mention the villains made no sense and in one of them Denise Richards was supposed to be a believable nuclear scientist! I will believe in watches that shoot lasers, cars with rocket launchers and ejection seats and a guy who can cut your head off by throwing a hat but that was going too far!

Despite a predictable ending I really enjoyed The Paperboy.

I picked up Layer Cake a few weeks back and finally had a chance to watch it. It's the film that made Barbara Brocolli pick him for Bond.

A little course with the language, but overall a good drug/crime action flick. Can't compare it to Blow, since that was based on a true story.

The Roger Moore era Bond was almost unwatchable. The gags and in-jokes that filled every movie got to be too much.

I guess blame that on taking the series a different direction when fans hated the seriousness of George Lazenby's Bond.

I'd say it's Connery/Brosnan for 1/1A (and I will acknowlege that Brosnan's scripts were just as awful as Moore's).
2. Daniel Craig
3. Timothy Dalton
4. George Lazenby
5. Roger Moore

I like the direction Craig's Bond went. Enough with the slapstick and corny one liners.

I just hope they can strike a balance of good scripts without over doing the action. I want Craig to crank out a few more of these films before he gets "to old" in his opinion.

Not really. Quantam of Solace was a generic action movie that just happened to have James Bond as the lead instead, but Casino Royale and Skyfall are very much Bond films that carry on the early tradition from the Connery years. Brosnan was a good Bond who was stuck with lousy plots and scripts outside of GoldenEye (though the media mogul one sadly becomes seemingly more realistic all the time). The producers seemingly felt the need to keep one upping the absurdity of the last movie. By the time they got to the invisible car, the White Korean robot man, and the CGI surfing of a tsunami in Die Another Day, you knew they needed to reboot it.

I don't know anyone who wants Bond to go back to the crap that was Die Another Day.

Die Another Day only redeeming feature was that it added Halle Berry to the roster of Bond Girls.

Watched Lawless on plane yesterday, I thought it was entertaining. Shadows of the Godfather were evident. The 'special' deputy is one creepy character.

Worth watching but it won't make mookie's top 27 list

Speaking of in-flight movie selections, I'd love to know whose idea it was to run K19 / Widowmaker on a Delta flight I took about 8 years ago. A defective Champagne bottle, the wrong emergency gear stowed on-board, and the entire crew gets sick.

Mine was on lap top...tried to watch the master, per recommendation on here, during return trip but download failed me.

Finally getting around to the most recent Batman movie tonight. Hoping it's good.

End Of Watch.

Solid movie. Apartment got a little dusty near the end, dunno why.

Oh, that was quite good.

Loved Batman Begins. Really enjoyed the new direction and tone that it set.

Thought The Dark Knight was bloated and over-long. Other than the Joker, it was a waste and what do they do? Give Two-face screen time that should have went to the greatest of all Batman's enemies played to perfection by Ledger. Dumb. Soured me on this take on the franchise.

This movie redeems and saves the trilogy, imho. Back to what made Batman Begins so refreshing.

Not sure where they left it and evidently Bale says he's done. Can't see a movie with Robin as the lead, but would love to see Batman & Robin done by this group with those same actors.

Either that or a Batman Beyond movie as long as it's done by Nolan. Used to watch that series every day at 4:00 with my then 4 year old when it was actually on TV. Was great. Need to pick that up on dvd along with the Batman series from the same period. Mark Hamill was great as the voice of the joker.

Maybe "Robin" from this movie could become Terry or the next Batman or Batman Beyond.

Anyway, I give it 5 stars, 18 months late. :o:D

Oh yeah, and I don't usually find Anne Hatheway attractive really at all, but she was hot, hot, HOT as Cat Woman!

:eek::D
