Overall, if you haven't seen it, you really should.

Also a great sound track. Not just the theme song, but all the music is interesting. Once Upon a Time in the West is similarly cool in acting, themes and music.

Agreed. The music was outstanding.

Go see Kick *** NOW. One of the most original, stimulating, movies I have ever seen. Definitely the best movie I have seen in quite some time.

I love when people say it is original seeing as it is based on a comic book. The book was original, the movie not so much...unless you think every book that was turned into a movie is original and groundbreaking :p

Don't be silly, comics never have anything interesting to them, they're just picture books for children that are made to accompany the movie. Clearly nothing of interest there.

****it, I must have been thinking of something else ;)

ok so it wasn't original...I've never read the comic books. But nonetheless it was still an awesome movie.

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

How is it that someone who loved Kick-*** would not describe it as a kick-*** movie? Feeling too good for an obvious pun, are we?

Redbox day yesterday:

Paranormal Activity: Soooo much better than I thought it would. Had a building tension through traditional techniques that modern idiots would dismiss as "slow" but work very well here. Handheld movies get a little hokey sometimes, but it wasn't so bad here. My only genuine beefs were 1) the couple's inability to... you know... call a different "specialist" after they got really freaked and 2) Micah was just a total arrogant doosh.

Then again, if movie characters thought through their actions or weren't arrogant d-bags then the entire horror genre would be pretty tame, wouldn't it?

Up in the Air: Does Jason Reitman know how to make bad movies? The answer is: No. No he does not. Anna Kendrick's character was a little over the top for my tastes (sobbing like a child? my generation is pretty childish, I know, but still...), but the entire character dynamic just worked for me. Also: more movies should just breeze through wedding scenes with montages.

The Informant!: A lot funnier than most will give it credit for. The random voiceovers were annoying at first, but I definately grew to appreciate how much they tell you about the character.

The Good The Bad And The Ugly:

I had seen parts of this in the past, but never saw the full 3 hour uncut version start to finish.

Really good. Some suspense scenes overdid it a little, could have cut a few seconds here and there, but it wasn't terrible. Love the character development, the different levels of "morality/ethics" considering the behaviors of the 3 main characters.

As for the acting, really good, considering the genre.

Overall, if you haven't seen it, you really should.

Great great great great great great movie.

One of the best endings in cinema history. Especially the music. From the moment you start hearding "The Ecstacy of Gold", it's cinematic perfection.

We Live in Public. Interesting / disturbing movie documentary about an extremely maladjusted but clever internet pioneer and the reductio ad absurdum of interactive media, in which we all happily surrender our privacy for the illusion of being listened to. In other words, the dark side of the Cafe. Solid B.

Just looked it up on Netflix, because of your take. Definitely sounds interesting.

Caught just a couple minutes of "Black Caesar" in the middle of the movie. This has potential. :D

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

I just saw the Watchmen movie, catching it on cable while doing laundry. This is one of the few times - the only time I can remember off hand - where a movie has a better ending than its source material. I wasn't much a fan of the book, largely due to the ending and the pirate story used as a narrative within the book, and I am very glad to see them both changed.

So the Ultimate Edition with the "Black Freighter" animated stuff inserted in it wouldn't excite you? For what it's worth, it's very well done and a bit easier to wrap your head around in the movie than it is in the book.

You. Any input on Black Caesar?

I had no problem understanding the Black Freighter's usage when I read the book. It just didn't do anything for me, setting the narrative within the narrative. It felt more like the author was extending the book for no more reason than to spell things out to the reader, essentially dumbing down the experience. I've only read a few comics in my life, and most within the last year or two. I've been pleasantly surprised that they're not as debasing in their story-telling as most movies or television shows. However, the use of the Black Freighter within Watchmen felt more like a television stunt than anything else.

I must admit, however, it did take until the third or fourth use of the BF storyline for me to figure how it was used. I thought it removed from the rest of the story because now I knew, okay, this next segment of the book will focus on...which will lead to this sort of outcome. It was too much foreshadowing.

If the comic was in fact original why can't the movie based off the same also be original? :p

Shawshank:

I have to admit, it's worth the "oh my God you haven't seen Shawshank?!" hype. Very solid movie. But, since it's me, and I like to nitpick hyped movies, why does Freeman have to play yet another wise grisled veteran whatever?

I love him, he's great, but stop the typecasting!!! He can do other things!
