New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Netflix "Edgeplay."

We watched Edgeplay yesterday, and I also took a tour of the former members' various blogs. My entirely unscientific summary, in order of most to least ****ed up:

Sandy West is dead, and it's hard to get more ****ed up than that. Alive, she was by turns an addict, a pathological liar, and a criminal (she was, no joke, muscle in an extortion ring).

Cherie Currie is delusional and a completely untrustworthy narrator, mostly because of drug abuse but also because of various forms of abuse that have in turn, as is usual, turned her into a abusive personality herself.

Jackie Fox is probably a hypochondriac but she did pull it together, getting a law degree (Harvard will take anybody with a funny admission essay) which isn't that impressive but also a dual minor in linguistics and computing from UCLA, which is. She refused to sell the rights to her name for the movie.

Lita Ford is a tough, tough woman who carved out a decent career as a metal goddess.

Vicky Blue has a nose for a good business opportunity and has managed to make money off the whole deal.

Joan Jett is a precision-engineered high tech corporation that's churned out various successful products, one of which was Youth in Revolt.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Hadn't watched more than bits or pieces for 20 years. Loved it as much as I did then!

On that same sort of nostalgic thought:

"What's in the booooox????? C'monnnnnn!"

Still awesome, suspenseful, and genius.

Interesting to see what Anheuser-Busch (or rather InBev) actually owns. I knew most of them, but there were a few surprises, like Grolsch and Boddington's.
It's also interesting to note (don't know if this is brought up in the documentary) how many "American" brewing companies are actually owned by foreign companies. I think that's why Bud is no longer mentioned in their ads as "a great American lager"; it's now the "great American-style lager."

Went to see Alice in Wonderland last night. Not in 3D and not in IMAX. I enjoyed the movie, but wasn't overwhelmed. The colors were stunning (particularly for a Burton film), but I just wasn't blown away. Maybe I've seen enough Burton-Depp collaborations? Thought Alice was really really good - though I didn't like Anne Hathaway as the White Queen. I can't decide if it's the way the character was written, Hathaway's mannerisms, or her dâmned eyebrows, but something just seemed not quite right. I did enjoy the way they did the Cheshire Cat and the twins.

Wooo for mini-Frank Blacks!

"Dolemite."

Nope, don't have the words. You just have to see it. Unreal. :D

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

I knew you'd approve you cracka mothaf-cka.

I have to admit, I didn't like it as much as "Black Belt Jones."

1. The main characters were on par with each other, as well as the stories.
2. However, the "interludes" (*cough* space fillers *cough*) were less entertaining in "Dolemite." (the love scenes, and especially the music parts/club show towards the end of the movie)

I will obviously say that the ODB "Baby Got Your Money" video reached a new level of appreciation. :D

Dolemite was a hero to guys like ODB and Snoop Dogg and countless others. A kung-fu pimp? Yeah, that'll work for the rapper set. Dolemite gets knocked down because it feels like it's way too long of a movie. It's 90 minutes that feels twice as long.

Saw "Charade" last night with my daughter, an Audrey Hepburn fan. It was ok but it tried too hard. Everybody is in that film, though: George Kennedy, James Coburn (with an atrocious Texan accent), Cary Grant, Walter Matthau...

I didn't think Clash of the Titans was that good. I thought Percy Jackson was a much better. It just seemed to be missing a lot in the plot.

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

watched "Black Dynamite" last night. Yeah, it's stupid, cheesy and over the top, but that's the point. I haven't laughed that hard in a while.

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Finally got around to Donnie Darko last night. I didn't think it lived up to the hype I'd heard about it, but it was interesting enough to keep me watching. The mind of a schizophrenic is a terrifying place.

The Good The Bad And The Ugly:

I had seen parts of this in the past, but never saw the full 3 hour uncut version start to finish.

Really good. Some suspense scenes overdid it a little, could have cut a few seconds here and there, but it wasn't terrible. Love the character development, the different levels of "morality/ethics" considering the behaviors of the 3 main characters.

As for the acting, really good, considering the genre.

Overall, if you haven't seen it, you really should.

Saw Jennifer's Body...

Awful...Even Megan Fox's attractiveness couldn't save it.
