NCHA 2012-13--The final season as we know it!

Re: NCHA 2012-13--The final season as we know it!

Both have goaltending question marks.

Gustavus has three 1st year goalies who have a collective .959 saves %, a 0.75 goals against and the team plays outstanding defense (outshoots opponents +148) and they have goaltending ???

Re: NCHA 2012-13--The final season as we know it!

Exactly - have they been tested? All three are freahmen. Can they handle RF's offense. Those are the questions.

Re: NCHA 2012-13--The final season as we know it!

Two more games for NCHA teams tonight before the holiday break.

Hamline vs. Marian--I see a Marian victory in this match up, with the way Marian has been going this season. I don't know much about Hamline's season thus far. 1-0 Marian

GAC vs. UWRF--A rematch after a GAC win 2-1 in RF. I think RF comes out strong and wanting revenge in this match-up. The only factor is that Don Roberts is a tough place to play in. Prediction 2-1 again with RF pulling out the win this time.

Re: NCHA 2012-13--The final season as we know it!

St. Norbert hosts Bowdoin today, but instead of playing on the Olympic ice at Cornerstone, it's the undercard for the USHL's Green Bay Gamblers at the Resch Center.

SNC women play at 4pm, with the Gamblers/Muskegon game at 7pm. One ticket gets you into both games. There's been some talk of trying to get more than 2,500 people for SNC. I think that's unlikely but we'll see.

Re: NCHA 2012-13--The final season as we know it!

Final: Bowdoin 3 SNC 2. SOC Bowdoin 29 SNC 28
Too many missed opportunities by SNC in this one.
Credit to Bowdoin as they built a cushion that the Knights could not overcome.
Announced attendance was 3277......D3 record.

Congrats on the record courtesy of a looney NCAA attendance reporting policy.

The baseline for Norwich women's games in a doubleheader with the men is now 1000.

That policy is really crazy....there were six people on our side of the arena when the game started, including USVenture Jim and myself.
Filled in a bit by the end of the game...under 300 total.

Heard that the SNC women's team stopped over in Detroit today, on their way to Oswego, and had a practice season with the Red Wing coaching staff.
Pretty cool!!

Re: NCHA 2012-13--The final season as we know it!

SNC gains the split with Oswego, winning 2 -- 1 this afternoon.

Most eyes should be on the Adrian/Superior series. If Superior wins both games, they will put themselves back in the NCHA champ drivers seat...Adrian sweep will get them up there in the mix as well. I think Adrian will have the advantage in game 1...Superior hasn't played since early december, while Adrian played a couple last weekend...and Superior has the 13 hour bus ride to deal with.

River Falls at St Norbert should be an interesting matchup...or will St Norbert continue to stumble through its 3rd season.

Not that I ever want to cheer for the pointers...but I hope they take down the Gusties!

Re: NCHA 2012-13--The final season as we know it!

End of the year predictions.

1 UWRF (I expect RF will sweep Marian and CSS..I think they take at least 3 from LFC at the Hunt.) Finishing with 33 or 34 points.
2 Lake Forest (will sweep Finlandia, beat Concordia, get at least 3 from SNC, and get maybe 1 from River Falls) Finishing with between 30 and 32 points
)3. Adrian(wins out sweeping concordia and Marian. They would need Lake Forest to lose 3 of their 7 remaining games to move up into 2nd which is possible, but doubtful IMO) 29pts
3. UWS-(wins out sweeping SNC, UWSP, and FIN...the first two will be challenging sweeps, but i have faith!) 29 points--lose tiebreakers to Adrian
5. UWSP-(beats Marian, gets swept by UWS, takes at least 2pts from SNC) 23 or 25 points
6. CSS-(splits with Eau Claire, gets swept by River Falls, sweeps Marian) 20 points
6. UW-EC (sweeps Concordia and Marian, splits with CSS) 20 points--loses tie breaker on head to head score
8. SNC(gets swept by UWS and LFC, splits with UWSP) 17 points

The only way Concordia gets in is they win out...sweeping Eau Claire and Adrian and beating Lake Forest. The odds of that happening are slim to none...if that happened it would knock Eau Claire out of the play-offs. Marian and Finlandia are definitely out.

I made a big assumption in Superior winning out...as unpredictable as they've been that is doubtful. Regardless it looks like it will be UWS/UWSP in the first round for the 3rd straight year...just depends on whether it is in Superior or Stevens Point.

UWS can do no better than 4th(with tiebreakers); same with Stevens Point.

The real interesting team to watch is Lake Forest...can they go into River Falls tied and make a run for the title?

Thoughts??

Not sure I agree with all of your picks above. There is much more parity in the league this year. No game is a given, except maybe poor Finlandia. Even Marian is much improved this year. And, the mighty River Falls is not as good this year as in the past. St. Scholastica can be very good, and Lake Forest seems to be running on all cylinders. I think it is still too early to call the order of how teams will finish.

I did want clarify one thing. You have to go back to the '09-'10 season to see UWS/UWSP in the first round of playoffs. Last year and the previous year, UWSP faced Adrian at Adrian, and UWS faced SNC and Lake Forest, respectively. All I can say is that I hope Point wins enough games so that it doesn't have to go back to Adrian again ... that drive is a real test of one's patience.
