NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

Re: NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

I love Rush.

Dare to say most don't know what I am talking about.

Doubt it. You're the first one to get it.

It came to mind with the whole BTHC thingy...

Something I have been flamed for expressing my conjectured opinion about elsewhere.

Oh, well. The Priests of the Temples of Syrinx will have UNO in the Frozen Four next year.

Agreed. The 5th frame from the link you posted clearly shows the white space. And the refs probably saw that frame, because ESPN showed it. That's what first convinced me. I was not originally convinced by the overhead.

The goalie's pad was in contact with the ice. The puck emerged from underneath. It was never, ever in the air.

I never said it was in the air. What I said was this:

The camera position in that link was directly in front of the net. Likely across the rink, with a serious telephoto. Say, 50 feet up, 250 feet away.

Photographs are two dimensional.

Do the math. From that angle, the photo can confirm two dimensions - left to right (post to post) and vertical (was the puck in the air).

That's it. That camera angle cannot conclusively determine the only dimension that matters: depth (was it across the goal line).

I am quite confident the NCAA rules do not allow the ref to do some sort of amateur triangulation between shots. That's not conclusive.

Do I think it was goal? Yes, probably. But under the rules, do I think the ref was authorized to make the call? Probably not. (my inner lawyer coming out here) But there's no justice written into the rules, what we think is right, or the truth. It's only about what the camera shows inconclusively. Don't like the rules, change them. Give the refs more discretion. Until then, reviews should be done by the book.

There is unrest in the forest, there is trouble with the trees, for the maples want more sunlight and the oaks ignore their pleas ...

I saw Rush in Omaha in 1983 @ the Civic Auditorium.

You should hang out with Brent and his crew. :p

Keep Blais and your best days are ahead of you. Very solid addition to the WCHA and I wish you had arrived sooner.

I'm jealous. I have never seen Rush live. You used to live here (I'm assuming you don't, now)? I did not live here then.

Re: NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

As for the game later today/tonight, why will CC win or lose?

Michigan beat Colorado College back in December when both teams were down some key players

I also found the following:
All-time, the Michigan/CC series dates back to 1939 with Michigan holding a 57-36-3 advantage. The teams have met seven times in the NCAA Tournament, with four of the games being for the national championship. Michigan topped the Tigers for NCAA crowns in 1952, '55 and '96. CC bested Michigan in 1957.

This was from prior to the meeting this season. Also, I only came across 6 NCAA meetings, 4-2 in favor of Michigan but maybe I missed one?

Know what's hilarious?

There is an element of people reading this thread going, ***? Who are the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx?

By the way, UNO lost.

Re: NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

Omaha is the third largest metropolitan area in the country with D-1 college hockey after the Twin Cities and Boston. Nope, OSU fan, Omaha is about 100,000 people bigger than the Columbus metro area.
Nope. You forgot Denver, population 2,552,195 and Pittsburgh metro (RMU), population 2,354,957. The US Census* lists Columbus metro at 1,801,848, Providence at 1,600,642, Buffalo-Niagara Falls at 1,123,804, Rochester, NY at 1,035,566, and Albany-Schenectady-Troy, NY at 857,592. Omaha-Council Bluffs is listed at 849,517. The Columbus metro is nearly 1,000,000 larger than Omaha. The Omaha metro is at most the 10th largest metro with D-I college hockey.

* - population values are US Census Bureau estimates for 2009.

Apollo was astonished Dionysus thought me mad....
And the classic line
Looking down from Olympus
On a world of doubt and fear
Its surface splintered
Into sorry hemispheres
Rush never another like them

Ah the old Michigan conspiracy theories thread. It's been too long my friends, too long. Heck, we didn't even do this once all of last year! But no worries, we're back together again. Let's stay together all the way until April 9th shall we??

Re: NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

In general. Calm down. The first thing I've heard after big UND/WI wins (including last week after UND's title win) was "F* The Gophers!"

And I will say that if the on-ice call was a goal, there was no evidence to overturn THAT call. My point being, there was zero evidence either way to overturn the initial call. Zero.

You're really doing the reputation of the university of minnehaha a disservice by continuing to insist such an erroneous claim.

Last year we were just thrilled to be there. No one expected what Hunwick was able to do.

Re: NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

Gimme a break.

It was never a goal until the myopic referees decided after 10 minutes of trying to figure out how it was a MU goal that it actually was!!! "Most likely over the line", EVEN if that is true, ain't good enough. The evidence is supposed to be irrefutable using replay to overturn anything, and, "anything", was no goal!!! You can paint it anyway you want to and sugercoat it any way you want to, and, a ton of people have looked at that video that could not care less about the results and said they don't see irrefutably that it was a goal.

Get it right you hay-seed. It's UM, not MU. All of you uno fans are the same. I'm glad the real school in Nebraska joins the B1G next year.

Continue your charade. It is much funnier that way. I've agreed with UND and WI fans. That right there is saying something. It's sad that I've come to this but if that is what it takes to prove someone is an idiot...

Man, I bet Red Cows had NO clue that it was actually "UM" and not "MU". He could not have possibly kept referring to it as "MU" to get some extremely sensitive Michigan graduate such as yourself worked up.

Should I start referring to Red Cows as a "Husker Reject" then?

I'll give it to you that sue fans and Wiscy people are larger in the world of Hockey rivals to you but we all already know of your complete frustration in not being comparable to The University of Michigan. That's OK, everyone hates the best team. Why do you think everyone hates the Yankees?

I'm still waiting, when does Minnesota play?
