NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

Re: NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

Very entertaining game tonight. Michigan came with intensity and focus all night. They were on the puck everywhere. Their fore-check was intense. I agree that Howe kept them in it. He finished the season--the last four-six games playing his best of the season. Big Blue just about shut down CC's bro line. The rest of CC's lines had nothing to contribute offensively and so Owens had to run the bro line for extra duty coming down the stretch and they didn't have enough gas. Bottom line UM took control in the first by coming out with intensity. Big difference CC was 3-4 on the PP against BC and just 1-7 tonight. The one was barely a PP too. Gotta wonder if winning a close one helped UM and winning easily hurt CC. So much of this game is mental.

Re: NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

I don't have much in me right now, but I wanted to post a quick congrats to Michigan for winning their way out of this year's "Region of Death". They did an amazing job of keeping CC out of their transition game (which surprised me since Michigan is usually a team that prefers that style). They killed the CC penalties in brilliant fashion, and earned their trip to the Frozen Four. Red must have seen something, because his team was terrific and CC had no answer for the defense and PK they played tonight.

I am SO proud of what CC did this year. My head is held high. This team was picked anywhere from 8th to 10th in the WCHA going into the season, and instead, this young team ended up as one of the last 8 standing in the nation, and took out an incredible team in the first round. This loss stings badly, as do all losses in the tournament, but we have a sophomore who has proven he can be a "big game" goaltender, and I truly believe that the sky is the limit for this team. They will be hungry next year, and they have seen the tournament earlier than expected. I think this program is back on the rise.

And congratulations to your boys. They came on strong at the end of the year and definitely made more of an impact than I expected them to. They'll definitely be a force to be reckoned with next year, that is for certain.

CC iirc returns a ton (120+ points from the F?) and their future should be bright.

I wish I could have seen the games, but it sounded like all of the teams played well... Well...

But one heck of a regional reading the posts!

Dear CC,

Where'd your offense go?

Signed,

Everyone who doesn't care for Michigan

This game showed why CC was about a .500 team this year. I don't want to take anything away from Michigan as they played a great game and certainly deserved to win, but this wasn't the same team that played on Friday. All season CC has shown they have the abillity to go out and beat anyone in the country. Usually they follow that up with proving that they can also be very average.

A couple notes:

CC is a well respected program and should be congratulated on a fine season.

Michigan had a dose of the CC PP earlier in the season and knew what talent they had prior to the BC game. Michigan didn't have Brown or Merrill, CC didn't have Jaden Schwartz.

I think BC underestimated CC, and by reading into the comments by York and some of his team, my perception is that BC thinks it was more their failure than CC's success in that game. Michigan wasn't going to make the same mistake, so I think they played a bigger role in winning this game than CC did in not executing.

I think the first goal was huge and it gave Michigan a chance to settle into that blanket defensive plan. Howe was phenomenal and kept CC in the game. He had Hagelin talking to himself. This by far was Michigan's best defensive effort of the season. I can't recall them losing too many board battles in this game.

Michigan was able to get secondary scoring, where CC looked to their top line too much. Going 1-7 on the PP was huge, too.

Did Michigan (UMAA) only bring their Maize jerseys so they didn't have to bring road and home jerseys?

The home team (higher seed) has their choice of jersey. At the FF, they will wear road blue if they play UND and either their white or maize if they play Denver.

CC = Choke City... No matter how good they are, they can't win deep in a tourney.

Yeah and Mike Eaves is the most classless coach in college hockey. BTW, if we suck so bad why couldn't you beat us?

Seriously?? After the way this young team overachieved this year and took it to BC in the first round, you come on here with those comments? Nobody in college hockey expected them to be close to making the tournament, let alone winning a game.

Mike Eaves is a goon of a coach, and in spite of the fact that I really like a lot of their fans and even players, I cannot cheer for Wisconsin simply because of him.

Ultimately, I guess Bullitt is still bitter over the fact that CC ended the Badgers' season.

I couldn't agree more with both of these posts. Can't wait for next year. Go CC!

Re: NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

Michigan, I have a big request for you. PLEASE destroy NoDak/ DU. I hate both teams with a passion and I can't stand the thought of one of them winning it all. So take care of business at the frozen four and show no mercy.

CC had a great season. Our wins down the stretch over NoDak, DU, UMD, and Wisconsin made this a real memorable season. The come from behind overtime game in the first round of the playoffs was one of the best games I witnessed at the World Arena; the BC game will go down in history as one of the biggest upsets in program history. It's been a good run.

Good luck to the Maize and Blue...

Next year is THE year for the Tigers :-)

Re: NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

Michigan played CC very effectively, with such a young teams still rebuilding, CC’s top line provides most of their offenses. Michigan neutralized CC’s speed through the neutral zone and kept stripping the puck away from the Tigers and when they did enter the zone Michigan pushed them to the outside and won the board battles.

Idk what happened to BC, They clearly underestimated CC but also once CC got the lead they just fell flat and looked like they didn't know how to get the game back under control. I was also really surprised Muse was left in so long, b/c it was definitely not his night. Boston College was not very physical even though they were generally larger than CC. In general they just weren't prepared for CC. Also it's interesting for such an experienced team almost all of their losses came on the road, and although this was technically a home game for BC, the higher seed, it was more of a home game for CC.

Re: NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

kinda refreshing after listening to melrose's eastern bias.

Melrose picked UND to win it all and Frattin for the Hobey.

As a fan, it's hard to say that BC underestimated CC. It's certainly possible, just hard to determine. Not sure what comments you've seen, but the only quote I've seen from York is:

“Colorado College certainly deserved the game tonight,” said BC coach Jerry York. “They were just much better than we were in a lot of facets of the game, particularly special teams. They didn’t surprise us. We knew they were a very good hockey team. We knew they had good special teams. We were just unable to contain [them] and win those special team battles.”

Right off the bat he gives credit to CC. Not sure what you were looking for...

CC = Choke City...

They were the #4 seed. How is it a choke to beat the defending national champions and then lose 2-1 in the regional final?

Again, hard to say they underestimated CC. I do agree that they were obviously in unfamiliar territory. They had to have been shell shocked when CC made it 3-1 and 4-1. They got it to 4-2, but even then were never really able to get back into the game. Credit CC for that. Outside of the 2nd goal, not much Muse could do. He was given little support. Wasn't the team's night is more accurate.

Are you sure BC is generally larger than CC? Too lazy to look it up. I would say that BC definitely looked unprepared to face CC's top line. That and special teams were the difference in the game.

BC had only a handful of losses throughout the year...you have to lose them somewhere. Winning on the road is always tougher.

you guys are still ****ed about something that happened in 2006 that Eaves had nothing to do with, or what's with the Eaves bashing suddenly?

If Michigan drew BC in the 2nd round, they would have forced to wear the Blue jerseys. Shawn Walsh in the Mid 90's (color blind evidently) saw to that rule being enacted
