NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

Re: NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

when did alabama-birmingham start a team?... is huntsville near Birmingham?

Re: NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

I looked it up. It took about 10 minutes to review, but the evidence is conclusive. Ann Arbor is in the Detroit Combined Statistical Area (CSA), but not in the Detroit Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). Since Red Cows was talking about Metropolitan Areas, I did not include it. Ann Arbor, is the center its own MSA, which consists of Washtenaw County and is the #145 largest MSA in the US. The Detroit MSA is Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, St Clair and Wayne Counties. Detroit lost its only Division I hockey team when Wayne State (MI) folded.

Oops...got my Alabama schools mixed up. I corrected the list.

CC made sportscenters top 10 plays this morning at #9 with Joe Howe's toe save on Whitney!!

They should have thrown in the two saves on Cam Atkinson in the 1st for good measure. I thought that could have been a 4-3 or 4-4 game after one, except for Howe standing on his head. Fabulous game by him and the entire CC team.

Congrats CC on an incredible performance last night. You guys handled a very loaded BC squad.... you keep this up, and no one is beating you!

Ugh... I forgot how awful the BC band is.

Figured it'd be permanently in your head after last year...

Looks like the refs have gotten the message that BC was supposed to win this one.
:p:mad:

CC had a grand total of one more penalty than BC

Thank you CC!

While this doesn't come close to making up for us losing last year, it sure makes me feel great tonight.

Great job and good luck tomorrow!

P.S. Eat it BC!!

ahahaha what an idiot

Never even left the time zone. Absurd.

Do me a favor and give me one instance where BC was placed in an eastern regional where it wasn't expected given the PWR system.

As a closet Michigan fan, I'd say Go Blue, but after watching the Jaden Schwartz show last night, I honestly don't see Michigan having an answer for that line. And frankly, I'm rethinking my disappointment that tUMD did not sweep CC in the Springs last month. EDIT: That kid is fun to watch.

There is certainly a possibility of 3 WCHA teams in the Frozen Four.

I'm not arguing but I'm curious how Livingston County can be considered part of the Detroit MSA when Livingston County is close to an hour from Detroit while Ann Arbor is maybe 25 minutes from Detroit?

who is announcing this region? the guy is almost as entertaining to listen to as these games are to watch. kinda refreshing after listening to melrose's eastern bias.

Ben Holden. He's a Comcast guy from the Detroit area.

It probably has to do with work patterns. Ann Arbor is self contained. Most people who live there, work there. Although not true 20 years ago, eastern Livingston County has now become Suburban Detroit. Check out the daily traffic jam on eastbound I-96 west of I-275 in the mornings and you'll all those people from western Oakland/eastern Livingston commuting in.

Re: NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

Hats off to Joe Howe for single-handedly keeping CC in the game tonight. CC had a chance at the end because of his efforts.

As for Michigan...that may have been the best performance from them that I've seen all year. It wasn't flawless...they still made the occasional sloppy pass in their own end, and they should have converted more opportunities so we wouldn't have had a scare at the end, but still, they dominated that game hands down.

Interesting bracket left...on one side, you have Michigan, NoDak, and Denver, who are three teams with the most national championships, and on the other side you have UNH, Notre Dame, and Duluth, who have zero national championships. We're either going to have a first-time champion or someone at the top is going to pad their total.

OK, then explain Lapeer Cty. There is nothing in Lapeer but Beet Farms. Those people aren't commuting to the D.

I tend to agree with you that it's a stretch, but it's not completely ridiculous. We've had three people from Lapeer County working at our office in Troy. Again, try driving M-24 at rush hour, and you'll see tons of commuting from far northern Oakland/southern Lapeer.

Re: NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

I guess I'm rooting for Denver on sunday. They looked beatable vs WMU. Otherwise, I don't see anyone left to knock UND out.

Michigan "could", emphasis on "could". Will they? I don't know but that's why they play the games.

Boy, all of the Minnesota fans will be stuck in paradox if that happens. Who do they root for?

GREAT game by UM tonight. Stifling defense. Hunwick was fantastic. Looking forward to the Frozen Four. Hopefully they can continue to play like that, if they do and someone beats them, hats off to them.... GO BLUE!

tUMD. Great fans. Other than that? Don't care. I won't root against a team just to root against them.
