NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

Re: NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

And? PWR predicts all. Sometimes teams get "screwed." If a bunch of half-drunk fans can get 75% of the bracket right, including locations, then the NCAA did well. This is proven, per last Sat at a St Paul bar. The bracket makers were a mix of PWR enthusiasts and casual (relatively) fans.

And I'm bettin' they all went home alone... :p

Okay enough. Off to something else. ;)

I LOVE the regionals weekend. Even better than the FF, imo.

6 games tomorrow!

Pairwise predicted Michigan going to Grand Rapids in '07 instead of getting shipped off to Denver. Committee swapped us out, handed Michigan State the easiest tourney draw in the history of the world, they got a banner, all we got was Hensick getting bumped from the Hobey Hat Trick because an ECAC official apparently never heard a profanity before after jawing at our guys the whole game.

So, let's not give the NCAA too much credit, even if a bunch of dudes in a bar got it right this year.

To be fair, I would have gotten a number until a c-block happened. And that c-block actually got a waitress's number, without asking. And he's been talking to her. Box. ;)

And I do love me regionals weekend. And this year, it's anticipation of who I am going to see in a couple weeks.

I guess I should also add that the only reason BC didn't get another home game this year was to avoid an intraconference first round matchup with host UNH. I'm actually a little surprised the committee didn't arbitrarily bump UNH past UNO, so UNH would be a #3 seed and BC could stay in that regional. Additionally, BC was never the host of any of those regionals, so the committee was never forced to put them there.

Coupled with the apparent yearly screwing over of Michigan by the committee is the annual b.i.t.c.h-fest that Michigan fan seems to get into over some controversial call or perceived slight. Is it just me, or is it always something with you folks?

If you're going to join us and the Gophs in this new world supremacy conference, you're gonna need to do arrogant better.

Just trying to help.

From what I remember, we eff'ed up BC's location, and royally screwed the 3seeds, minus Duluth. We got that region. So I guess 11/16 overall.

So the C-block was one of your group? You're a bunch of odd ducks up there.

Yes, it would be fun to go to a FF at the X. Enjoy!

Re: NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

Better question is who did St. Louis blow? For all I care, rotate the thing between 5 or 6 cities, we're not expanding the reach of college hockey any if nobody shows up.

FYI

Omaha made a pitch to NCAA to host BOTH the men's and women's Frozen Four--at the same time--at two different venues, not too long ago. The Qwest (soon to be Centurylink) Center and the Omaha Civic Auditorium are within blocks of one another. Qwest Center hockey capacity: 16,680. Omaha Civic Auditorium hockey capacity: 8,314.

Omaha is the third largest metropolitan area in the country with D-1 college hockey after the Twin Cities and Boston. Nope, OSU fan, Omaha is about 100,000 people bigger than the Columbus metro area.

This would be a great place for men's or women's hockey on any level. This is the home of the College World Series as well that basically sells out every game. I'd argue that Omaha is a far better hockey town than a baseball town, too. Just ask the Omaha Lancers, besides the Mavs.

Whine. I was at that game in Denver. Michigan got destroyed. You could have played that Sioux team anywhere on earth and you would've gotten beaten. It's not like the folks from Grand Forks had it any easier? When you factor in that there's only like two flights a day out of North Dakota, they probably had it worse. Last I looked, even if half the state has checked out for greener pastures, Detroit still has a working airport, right? And it's not far away.

Re: NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

With all the angles we've been able to look at, you're actually trying to claim that the puck wasn't on the ice?

If that's all you have left, it's time to concede the argument. It was a goal.

Agreed. The 5th frame from the link you posted clearly shows the white space. And the refs probably saw that frame, because ESPN showed it. That's what first convinced me. I was not originally convinced by the overhead.

The goalie's pad was in contact with the ice. The puck emerged from underneath. It was never, ever in the air.

He was hammered, I dare say blasmed, and was in urban cowboy gear. I was talking to a nice girl who use to (apparently) play for UW (basic non-stalker questions were answered correctly). He body checks me, and says, "I haaaaaave a hat, isn't it grrrrrrreat?!" Flow gone. No recovery. :(

Re: NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

Honestly for what I knew going in about attendance in regionals, I feared the worst as far as attendance today. Honestly not that bad. The 5,000 and change announced is pretty close to accurate. Still would have looked and sounded better up the road in St. Charles at the Family Arena though. I don't think as many St. Louisans got up for this as they did the Frozen Four in 2007. That being said, I had a great time just like in 2007 and everyone else missed out.

I haven't seen a clip of the disputed goal from the Michigan/UNO game so I won't comment on that yet from my neutral perspective. As far as the beatdown delivered to BC all I can say is, "Me likey Jayden!" I can't wait for his time in a Bluenote to come!

Re: NCAA West Regional - 3/25, 3/26 - BC, Michigan, UNO, CC

Well see, you've had a football team that has actually been able to compete with Michigan since 1981. :o

What's with you people ALWAYS bringing up football!?!

Oh wait, that's me.

In the 80's my hatred started with our inability to beat them in football. It wasn't till the early 90's that we could compete. That early football hatred translated over very naturally to hockey for me.

As a Hawks fan, I didn't enjoy his performance as much as you. :)

I love Rush.

Dare to say most don't know what I am talking about.

The BC and UNH matchup was the only real obstruction after placing #1 seeds in their closest regional and then placing by bracket integrity (try to put overall 1-8-9-16 together, etc.). Then it was really only a question of whether you only switched the #1 seeds between NE and West (BC and Miami), or if you swapped all the teams but the #4 seeds. The committee did the former, probably in a desperate attempt to make something out of St Louis by leaving UNO and Michigan there.
