NCAA Rankings 2/19/13

2 notes:

1) Krach is meaningless, it's not what the committee uses, and you really need to stop looking at it, unless you really want to drive yourself nuts trying to understand what the committee does when all is said and done. The USCHO page even makes a point to put at the bottom "for entertainment purposes only". Hardly what I would call "nationally-respected".

2) He didn't "concoct" those numbers. Those numbers were taken from this page, which shows the raw numbers that the committee actually uses. If you're going to look at any numbers when predicting what the committee will do on 3/3/2013, those are the numbers you should be looking at, not your "nationally-respected" KRACH.

They've still left out some of Plymouth's games, that is really annoying me.

Yeah, that's pretty bizarre. Meh, I'm sure the committee is using accurate data... Although, the NCAA has updated the data sheet for the women's rankings, but the men's rankings link to a 3 year old data sheet.

Is that a step closer or further than the beginning of the week when they didn't have any data sheets available?

I've followed the KRACH for years in D-1. I think it's usually the best yardstick out there, and worth citing in a conversational vein, at the very least. (It's maybe worth noting that the NCAA ratings have the same top-five as it does, albeit in a slightly different order.)

While I do realize that nobody credits the KRACH with any official weight, no one knows what the esteemed committee considers on Selection Sunday, either... (That disclosure would apparently have national-security implications.)

I didn't take the time to look-up from whence the SOS rankings came that I commented upon last night. My sincere apologies to Prof on that one.

One look at the D-3 PWC some weeks ago convinced me never to go back, but I was shamed into doing so again tonight, and its SOS ranking is even more of a mystery to me than it once was. (How, for example, can M'ville reasonably be #6 in that metric, and Neumann #13..? Those numbers are raw, indeed.)

SOS is 2/3 opponent win percentage and 1/3 opponents opponent win percentage

Re: NCAA Rankings 2/19/13

WTH are today's rankings ????

My guess is there is some controversy (or as the Brits would pronounce in con-TROV-ersy) concerning who is going to be first in the East.

My numbers (which I know Fishman doesn't believe) suggest that it could go either way between Norwich and Utica

What I am curious to see (understatement) is how they reshuffle things in the 3-6 spots (previously Hobart, Bowdoin, Oswego and Babson). I know Hobart will drop from the three seed...but will they stay in this 3-6 cluster...and ahead of Babson?

Re: NCAA Rankings 2/19/13

I'd guess that one to be close. There are 24 permutations, but my guess is babo,, hobo, oso, and bowds or hobo, babo, oso, bowds

Re: NCAA Rankings 2/19/13

I'm now of the mind that the USCHO poll is significantly more accurate, especially on the lower half of it.
