NCAA Rankings 2/19/13

Evidence to the contrary

Evidence to the contrary

That's all irrelevant now, with Babson getting an AQ. Hobart's very impressive season is unofficially over, and UMass-Dartmouth will play on... That fact alone is evidence enough that the process needs some very serious tweaking.

Cautionary evidence to NOT throw the baby out with the bath water.

Re: NCAA Rankings 2/19/13

I guess the best west senarios are:

BEST:
Two quarterfinal games: likely SJU/UWEC and Adrian/SNC.

NEXT BEST:
Adrian goes east. SJU plays either SNC/UWEC with the winner going to the other NCHA team.

LEAST FAVORABLE:
Two first-round games to one quarterfinal.

I have to say my hunch would be that it will be the last of those. The sheer number of eastern teams makes it seem - to me - unlikely to guarantee two western final four spots. And while it would be nice to see that both top western teams advance I'm not optimistic. Hope I am wrong.

Re: NCAA Rankings 2/19/13

Mostly because I was trying to take a stab at predicting how the committee would do it, and a part of me feels the committee would still put the cadets in front. It's actually a 3-1 win for UC, but it was when the committee put Norwich #1 last week, too!

I mean, I suppose you could put those first 3 in any order. The relative positioning of NRW and UTC would affect the bracketing (swap the two in my bracket predictions if you choose to predict that UTC will be the 1E, not the 2E.)

You're right 3-1 (H2H). But last week Norwich had the edge in RNK (7-2-1 to 9-3-1), and were 2-2 vs Utica. The loss to Babson brought their RNK below Utica's.

Norwich also made their conference final and Utica lost in the semifinals. Not directly part of the criteria. But we have a subjective process where those things can be considered to help manipulate numbers.

And beat Utica...

And won their conference...

...and lost a bunch of other games

...and probably would have lost the 4 Pool A spot, if such were available, to Hobart. Hobart is the 12 team in an 11 team field.
